Speed Camera NSW

I don't know if it is true but a friend of mine e-mail me this notice but someone just told me it is not true.

ITS UP AND RUNNING, SO BE WARNED..

New Legislation M5 & M7 Re Speeding Fines

The M5 and the M7 are now equipped with Point to Point Speed Devices. On entering the M7 the etag beeps and a camera takes a photo of your car recording the exact time. On exiting the etag system beeps again another camera at that point takes a photo of the car and the time. Then the computer calculates the time it has taken you to
Travel between the two points and calculates your speed. If you completed the clocked journey too fast you are issued with a speeding ticket.

At the present the speed limit is 100K.P.H. With a tolerance of 102 maximum. Over that and you are issued with a fine automatically. What a shock some drivers are going to have when they use this roadway for a week and get a weeks' tickets BOTH WAYS. Of course your license will also be recalled for 3 months. Now with the new legislation, fighting a Speed Camera fine is almost impossible. You must prove the device is faulty and if you are not a technician working on them, you have no chance of beating the fine.

The Pacific Highway has a set and these are recognized by large steel frames over the lanes with a speed camera and some distance up the road is another large metal frame with a speed camera.

These new point to point systems are being put onto any expressway and highway where vehicles are not able to exit between those points.

NOTE: School zone cameras are not speed tolerant. Anything over, even 41, is a fine.

I think it's still a furphy. I'm pretty sure it would have to be signed somehow similar to speed camera signs in NSW. I use it every day and I haven't seen anything.

They have been policing the M7 pretty heavily of late mainly with patrolling bikes which is extraordinarily effective. If you're pretty sure you're going to see a bike cop somewhere along the way you tend to stick to the limit

I think it's only a matter of time though. The problem with these systems is that if you are in doubt, you conveniently stop along the way or near the end, this then causes a hazard that's probably more serious then speeding.

I don't really have a problem with it if they did go ahead. At least you know the deal, although I think they need to allow for a reasonable margin of error.

Load of shit surely

This has been going around since 2007. The RTA actually issued a press release in relation to point to point speed detection on the M5 / M7 saying that this is not in place and there was no plans for it to be put in place. Call the RTA to confirm.

There are a number of new overhead *thingies* south of Goulburn - between Yass and Jugiong and near Coolac. The one south of Yass has some construction under the roadway with concrete *mounds* on each side of the roadway in both directions. The *thingies* look like the traffic warning system around the big smoke but not working as yet...I hope.

There was some talk a while ago about point to point detection for trucks. Only way to know for sure is for someone to test them out...any volunteers???

They only do it for trucks nationally and by state for some commercial vehicles ATM as each state has different interpretations of the fed law. Totally to do with hours driven and time between gates, that's why you always see trucks parked up a few miles before the gantry's out on the national highways waiting out their time.

You had to be a part of that campaign many years ago to know what was happening at least to the drivers, transport co's were pushing their drivers way beyond safe practices and they had no sleep for weeks, using speed (uppers) and after many massive acco's they decided to enforce what log books would not say as they were always doctored and some cowboys really made it bad.

Recently they have implemented GPS tracking for large mobile cranes, some of this was done to protect roads from super heavy duty machinery wrecking bridges, surfaces and so on and ensure OD routes were adhered too, the technology is available so look out it wont be long before big brudda will have enough puter power and "gradually" bring this in for all road users. They will because the revenue is potentially huge.

It WILL end up being used for motorists in the future, not likely now but it is certainly worth the tin foil hat preparation. :?

The cameras on the F3 etc are for monitoring truck drivers fatigue, to make sure they are not driving more KM's than they are allowed without taking appropriate breaks. They do not measure speed.

The M5 and M7 have been able to do point to point speed checks from the day they were opened. There is no legislation to enforce such a speed measuring device. This has never been in force and I cannot ever see it happening.

I won't say how i know this but i can certainly say that from the infrastructure side of things i can say that they are definitely not equipped to do this level of monitoring.

hey that could work in your favour. If you want to test the top speed of your vehicle, you now can!

As soon as you go through pull over, wait a while, long enough to be under the limit, then go absolutely flat out and you'll get through safely, also know they wont set up a cop there!
