Exhaust or Mufflers ??

Ok, i am thinking of changing the mufflers or complete exhaust on my Z1000 (05) and I would like some opinions as to what does the trick ?? I already have a K&N filter but thats it as far as performance mods go. Has anyone noticed a difference in performance by changing just the mufflers and if so where do you gain and loose power ?? Which muffs sound good ?? Any and all opinions welcome.

Just the cans you can bolt on and you'll probably get a small improvement, probably won't notice though. If you go full system you should probably also get a PC111 and get it mapped and then you'll probably notice a difference. Depends what you want. If you just want it to sound nicer go slip on/bolt on but if you're chasing ponys and you've got dollars then go full system.
I like Akra's, they always sound nice and not too loud. PC's zeddy with the Arrow system sounds pretty damn good though

Yeah thats about what I thought, but I was wondering if there would be any noticeable difference with the slip ons because of the weight of the originals ?? I will probably just go with the muffs so I only have to figure out which ones sound the best ??

I had a Micron 4 into 1 system on mine and it made a huge difference with the airbox opened up, even without the PC3 or filter. I wouldn't waste my money on slip ons, but would do the full system.

Forget all the crap about performance and weight saving and shit it's all about the sound

Why not have both??? Problem Childs arrow System sounds like a Moto GP bike when doing rapid downshifts. I recall hearing it "slowly" rolling into Orbost not to long ago!!!!!

if you put 2 slip-ons on, you end up with a weird sounding v4 sorta sound happenin. and it costs more than a full system, coz you gotta buy 2 cans.
get a full system, you have nice blingin, unstained headers, sounds more like a 4cylinder sportsbike and gives more power.
but you you're symetrical in nature, and like the 2 pipes, your screwed...

I've got a muzzy 4 into 1 titanium system on my '04 z1000, with pc3 & b&m filter. Came with the bike, so I don't know the power diff, but putting the stock pipes on the shelf in the shed compared to the pipe on it now has got to be 5-8kg difference, so that'll get some power to weight change. Stainless or alum have a warmer sound, but I'm happy with the growl from mine. With the full system, from full throttle to backing off & jumping on the brakes it pops & I'm told shoots a small flame

If you're just after the sound, put on a muffler, and a PC3 to map it properly. If you can wait 6wks for it to arrive, you can save money by ordering from the states since our dollar is good at the moment.

$900 for more noise and fuck all difference in performance is a lot of money to waste in my opinion. Full systems still sound as good, if not better, and give you better performance. Mine pulled harder through the midrange like PC's and I ran it without any other mods for a while without any adverse effects. Once you save some more dollars you can then do the powercomander and you will have a weapon that also sounds good.

Thanks for the info, on another point - can you tell me what brand of tail tidy you have on your bike and where you bought it ?? I am looking for one that I can use with a Ventura rack but I also want to use the original indiacators. Thanks.
