Davo lived in Cooroy and the last 3 years has been very active in long distance riding on his Kawasaki GTR1000 and recently his 2 GTR1400 bikes. Davo was killed doing Iron Butt Rally event in the USA whilst riding hit a deer. The event happened in Idaho, (which is below Canada on the West of the USA)
Courier Mail article about the Iron Butt Ride
Australian Road Rider Magazine article
A few people were watching his satellite updates and noticed that his bike wasn't moving and then the news came that he had come off. It was the final hours of the Rally about 100 miles from the finish. Davo Jones had just crossed the Canada/U.S. border and was heading south on U.S. 95 toward a final bonus stop when he hit the deer.
Davo sustained serious injuries and had to be transported to the nearest hospital via helicopter. Many of the riders returning from Canada were detained as a result of the temporary road closure at the scene of the accident. Sadly they were unable to save him in hospital
I only knew Dave through the forums QMRF & KSRC. He seemed like a lovely man who had a great enthusiasm for life. Our condolences to Dave's family.
RIP Dave

I'd never heard of Davo Jones before tonight But have spent the last couple of hours reading through the Farrider posts with a lump in my throat knowing what was coming at the end. I now know that the motorcycling community is less for his passing. His achievements and outlook on life were nothing short of amazing.
A quote from his website sums it up;
"My name is David "Davo" Jones and I came into this world in 1956, raised just south of Wollongong. I am who I am because the road is not always what we expect. As the road turns be prepared. Traveling down that road is what we were put here for, what turns we make along the road are up to us as individuals. Opportunities are always there, some are just either too blind to see or too scared to open that door. Grab that handle and rip it open, you will be the better for it. The more you fall the better you get at staying errect.
You are writing your own life story right now, is it what you imagined as a child, have you done what you wanted. Will you be happy one day when you read back on your life. Was it a good life. This is not a rehearsal, you have only one chance.
My final word is, it's your dream, don't let anyone take it from you but most of all don't lose sight of it yourself.
See you on the road one day, after all ..... it's just a road.
Davo"
My condolences to his family and friends.
