Concern?

Hi everyone,

Its been a while since I have posted anything here but am often lurking in the background. Who would have thought life would be so busy. Anyway, noticed something today on my Z1000 on the front left fork which kinda concerns me cause its oil. Now I believe its probably just a fork seal that has had it. Any ideas/suggestions and is it still dangerous to ride with this...

If anyone also knows about what this is going to cost me that would help as well. This is my first since I got the bike in 2003. Hooray!

yeah, leaky oil seal.

it will eventually run out of oil, and will just got all pogo stick like.

probly should get it fixed sooner rather than later, while your getting it dont, get em to set both forks up the same. 8)

Fork seal has gone .. .

Bad stuff: If fork oil leaks onto tyre while riding ... big time no no's ... slidies plus trippie to Hospitalies . ..

Good stuff: If you can wrip the forks out yaself and take em to the shop, will save you heaps in labour .... prolly around . .. $120 ???? ... to strip em down and fix new seals.

Take it Äs Is"" .... and add that again to the cost . ..

I think thats about right . ..

Oh .. PS ... advice ....Ride V-Carefully prior to getting this fixed.

before you spend any money, wipe over the forks and clean under the seal caps. Sometimes you get a bit of dust under the cap and they will weep........ if it leaks after that you will need to replace your fork seals, which means you need to ride more often that you have been.........

Old dirt bike trick. Get a thin feeler guage, insert it between the seal and the fork and run it around the outside. If there's a little bit of dirt or something lodged in there it may clear it out. If it keeps doing it then replace the seals.
