The nanny state is at it again
Mr Pallas said improving safety on Victorian roads was what the Government’s arrive alive strategy was all about, aiming to reduce the road toll and serious injuries by 30 per cent by 2017.
He said the changes included preventing overtaking and U-turns over single unbroken dividing lines. Motorists will be able to perform a U-turn or overtake across broken dividing lines, or where there are no centre lines at all.
Looks like being a disaster. Lot of our nice mountain rods have single solid lines, and tourists, cyclists travelling well under the speed limit.
Another revenue raiser.

.............very interesting
seeing as that (if taken as read) will mean I cant turn into (or out of) my driveway...................courtesy of a single unbroken line
that leads to the lines at the corner
...idiot politicians

thats a stupid rule though, cause isnt it normally, you can't cross a sinple unbroken for any reason unless turning into a private drive way or something similar to that.
I didn't think u-turns were legal on single unbrokens anyway ???
It doesn't matter wat the law is though on things like that, if what you do is safe and no traffic which is going to cause a problem, then surely it can't be that much of a drama!

Did I miss something, but wasn't it already illegal to overtake where unbroken lines exist? Well at least I thought it was in NSW

Provided you don't get caught? I'd like to know where in the Australian Road Rules it says you can overtake on a solid white line? The only time you can do it is if there are broken white lines to the left of the continuous line.

I can't find the damn thing but.........
He said the
changes included
preventing overtaking and U-turns over single unbroken dividing lines.
Which means it is LEGAL NOW

Why would something be changed from being illegal to being illegal

So to do a U turn you now must simply turn into a driveway and then reverse out. Completely legal.........

you can only cross
a single continuous centre line if you
are entering or leaving the road or
to avoid an obstruction.
Cars are obstructions aren't they?

After reading through the "Victorian Road Rules" it seems that there is an exception, to the Australian Road Rules, that only applies to Victorian drivers that allow overtaking over a single continuous white line. Ridiculous!
Why have unified Australian Road Rules if individual states are just going to legislate exceptions?
MrWasabi wrote:so how many people did you book for that aardy?

Plenty, because the exception doesn't apply here.

AWESOME!!!
Firstly I would like to say that the rare times when I was overtaking on a single unbroken line I was under the impression that I was breaking the law... It is nice that law finally came into effect.
As for the U turn.... good!
