how good... Gregg was !!!!
Jarno Saarinen was my all time idol...
even named my dog, after him !
Like too many others, tragically taken from us, before their time...

Glen, good clip.
I was at Bathurst in the pits.
The following day on that same bike, a controversial accident ended Dennis Neil's racing career (..& very nearly his life )
...going up mountain straight, wheelie over the crest.. & the front wheel...
"fell out"...

@150mph
Dennis
was booked to ride British Superbikes ( for Honda)
... only a few weeks after that fateful Bathurst meeting.

I always thought that Dennis Neill had actually looped it going over the hump in Mountain Straight ?? He was carrying a video camera on the tank at the time, I can recall the footage really clearly, as the front wheel started to lift when he went over the crest.....and it just kept going up and up !!!
That 85 Swann series footage has been on ABC2 a few times over the years, its always good to watch, especially with Robbie Phillis and Mal Campbell dicing ......great stuff really....

Without doubt, Dennis's accident was caused by the fact that a (unnamed) mechanic in the pits had failed to secure the quick-release axle clamps on the front wheel of the CB1100R. When the bike wheelied on Mountain Straight, the front wheel literally fell out of the clamps and, when the front came down, the forks dug into the road, precipitating Dennis's career-ending accident. Kent Miklenda who crashed the Shadowfax at McPhillamy Park on the same day, was in Casualty a couple of bed down from Dennis in Bathurst hospital. He maintains to this day that listening to Dennis screaming in pain was one of the most horrible moments of his life. On a better note, BBDN turns 60 in October, these days enjoying the good life in sunny Queensland.
Speaking of Bathurst videos, if you watch this one, from the Easter Carnival, 200, the last ever time that bikes raced there, you'll hear yours truly on the microphone! It's weird hearing yourself on a video from 11 years ago.

Great clip

Gregs neice and nephew run our local cafe and from what they've told me the whole family are motorsport nuts. Gregs son Ryan has just made his debut his year in the V8 ute series.

Here's Gregg at OP in 1976 (my own photo - very proud of this one)
And here's Ryan, taken in 2009. Standing to the left of the bike. His brother, Rhys, is riding one of Gregg's old KR's.
Those who know him say that his resemblance to his late father is even more unnerving than this photo indicates.
