Question re Pillion Comfort on ZX-14

Hi,

New here - just joined. I wonder if anyone here can help with a question on pillion comfort on the ZX-14?

I'm thinking of upgrading my bike and have been looking at a number of sports tourers. I currently have an '07 Triumph Sprint ST 1050. It's a great bike but is in need of some decent suspension. Not bad as a sports tourer though.

I spend most of my time one up and it's only a few times a year that my wife joins me on the back. The Sprint is OK but has limited leg room for the pillion. I never though I'd worry about pillion leg room but now that my wife has decided to come with me on a few trips, I have to consider it.

I have ridden the new BMW K1300S & GT. Nice bikes. The GT is just too much bike for me. Yes, it's a great tourer, probably similar to the GTR1400, but when I want to play on my own, just too heavy. The K1300S is awesome but surprisingly, has less pillion leg room than my Triumph.

I recently rode a mates '09 Busa and thought it was good - great suspension but a little too sports seating orientated for me. Ducati really only have the Multistrada and it just doesn't do it for me. There's nothing I like from Yamaha or Honda (although the new VFR 1200 might be OK) but I've always had an eye for the ZX-14.

I rode the earlier one when they first released it and believe the latest model has some further improvements. I think it's an awesome loooking bike and having owned Kawasakis in the past, I'm a bit of a fan.

I know it's quick but I'm really interested in feedback from owners who tour with it and carry a pillion. My primary concern is legroom. My wife is quite petite, she weighs only 49kgs, but does suffer from aching knees if the pegs are too high. On the Triumph, it is a bit of an issue after a long day's ride but it's bearable. The BMW K1300S made her knees ache in an hour!

Thanks for reading.

Cheers,

Clinton

PM seiko1, think you'll find his missus bailed on him on a recent ride due to pillion discomfort.

They have kids together, are you saying Seiko is a premature ejaculator? :) That would explain the Viagra reference in my brake thread :D

Hate to spread my communistic honda ways, but have you considered a blackbird? A sportsbike they're not, but for typical australian bumpy country roads, its very plush. Excellent pilion comfort too.

I really like the busa too, but yes its position is a little sporty - although nothing helibars or similar couldn't solve.

Get a '76 Z900! Biatching on the back of Mal's is like sitting in a comfy armchair mmmm :)

I've spent some time on the back of a Blackbird also, and they're pretty reasonable.
