wrong fuel

Post by MrWasabi »

lets talk about hypotheticals...
Say someone was playing with their bike in the garage, and while doing so ran out of fuel. A quick look around would find you a can of fuel. After putting in about 2l you realised that the fuel you put in was for your edger and was mixed with oil, what could happen to the engine? Would you drain the tank and put fresh fuel in? Would you fill the rest of the tank with fresh fuel? Would you label your fuel tins so it wouldnt happen again?

+1 drain twice..... give it a good swirl when only half full on the second occasion ........

lucky it's only hypothetical, cause that is the sort of thing you would kick your own arse for a week if it happened... ;)

MMMMMMM ??? My first question Road going or track bike ?
Q1: 2l of 2 stroke going into a tank, @ what ratio oil to fuel ? ( did you hypotheticaly ) ..
Road going bike.No prob if you didnt start the bike simply drain and refill, amount of oil reside to fuel ratio no longer an issue
Trackie oh crap would need full flush due to tuning isssues
Q2: did you start it ? then re Q1:
Dammage to engine not likely, its effectivly leaded fuel, it will run all but poorly.
Q3: Definatly label your fuel cans so as to not hypothetically do it.

its a ratio of 40:1. So 125ml per litre. Hypothetically it was started, briefly... :?

id get a non tainted jerry can and make a couple trips to the servo and fill the bike with ulp/premium as much as possible and once the tank is full then just go for a long ride stopping every 100-120km or so and refuelling then to dilute the petrol as much as possible.

Hi I would personally fill with clean fuel and run a tank or 2 through it and not bother with it.
No problems other than a minor poor performance issue and maybe a bit of oil burn smoke ( until the fuel is diluted enough not to bother it).
I personally run virgin engines on 1fill of 2stroke mix ( epa emissions blown out the window tho ) just to ensure upper cylinder lube is there on initial start up until the engine is on its way to be broken in.
Never caused any probs with my old z650sr that had 312000ks on it when i traded her in and only ever had a top end refurb at 180000ks. When i fitted my new engine into my zzr600 recently ( re Blown up ZZR600 ( Where is the chinaman ???))
i ran 2stroke at the same ratio for the first 300ks and i have no issues. i have used this for the last 20-25 years or so so i see no detrimental effects of doing so hypothetically :D :D
Again just my opinion.

Being only 2 litres if you filled the tank up it shouldn't really matter it will blow a little smoke and you may oil up the plugs a little....

the ratio would probably end up around 1000 : 1

+1

Fill the tank with normal fuel, then go on 1 good long ride, where you run the tank right to empty...... You may blow a tad of smoke while the tank is being emptied, but thats no big deal.

Then fill 'er up again.....and alls well.
