I have used boiler door 1" tape before in a dirtbike muffler, worked so much better 
Find a boiler repair business and I am sure they will sell you a few meters

$25 for the packing which was some white fibreglass looking stuff.

Bit of welding too as the end was a wee bit rusted out. I'll post b4 and after pics tommorrow night
