servo, helmet and fellow riders.....??

Yesterday I was at the local Woolies servo (across the road from home) doing the tyres and getting some petrol. I use this servo all the time so not a stranger to them.
Air in, petrol in - go in to pay. I have a flip-face helmet and just flip it up to put petrol in then wander in to pay - no worries.
So I'm in line waiting to pay for the petrol - all $11.50 of it when I get a shove in the sholder and a very loud voice telling me to get my helmet off. I turn around to see a fairly wild looking guy yelling that I can't come in with my helmet on. I said - it's up, they can see my face - wheres the problem? He kept yelling that I can't come in with my helmet. By this point I was at the register and about to pay. Asked the girl if she had a problem with my flip-up helmet - "no, we know who you are so it's no problem". The other rider pushes in and starts going off about me wearing my helmet - girl just turned to me and said thank you, have a good day. I left but could still hear him going off.
Got on the bike and bolted for home, locked the bike in the garage and went in to ponder what the hell????
Still don't get it - I'm a "live and let live" kinda guy but that shook me up.
Went into the same servo after visiting mum in the hospital around midnight last night (she had a heart attack between 10-11PM and they called us to get up there asap) - got to talk to the same girl who had served me earlier. She asked me what the hell was the other guys problem - I didn't know but apparently he was still swearing after I left.
I asked again if there was a problem with me keeping my helmet on - not a problem at all.
Weird.
