AFTERMARKET PIPES AND WARRANTY

I guess a lot of people here have purchased new bikes and fitted aftermarket pipes or other performance accessories, but does this effect the warranty on your bike?
My brother, an avid BMW fan, recently purchased a new KLR 650 for a trip to Birdsville and has fitted a new pipe and asked me the question so I thought I would throw it over to you lot.

I'd say NO... I got a huge amount of warranty work done on my old bike @ 5k
It had a slip-on and fuel controller and didn't affect the warranty at all....

I left the dealership on a brand new bike, that was already fitted with Akra can and a fender eliminator - no issues - not that I've needed any warrenty work though.

As long as the modifications do not affect the bike or cause any mechanical issues then no after market parts don't affect warranty.

It really depends on what modifications you're talking about, what your warranty claim is for and how helpful your dealer is. If they want to be bastards they can probably justify not fixing something totally unrelated under warranty because you've put a pipe on, but most of the time if you've got a good dealer there won't be any issue at all.
Kawasaki gave away free Akra slip-on's with the 2005 ZX10R's, so they can't be too concerned about bikes having them on.
