I'm looking a picking up a dedicated track bike. Anything from a 250 to a 750, preferably a Kwaka..........but firstly I would like to get offers, sugestions and opinions of those who have been before me, been there done that......
I'm thinking something cheap with plenty of available parts, so if or when I bin it, it will be an easy cheap fix. Should I start with a 250 and step up to a 600 later on? Should I get a 600 now and not bother with the 250 or even a 750 for that matter? Any info, ideas or opinions will be appreciated. Just to let you know where I'm at. My best time at EC is a conservative 2.09, (I didn't want to bin my pride and joy 10). I reckon I would easy break 2 mins on a tracky after a few outings and with more experience bring those times down further..... So What do you people reckon is a good way to go......
Here is one I found on fleabay........ Thanks

Look at what you can afford. No good having 120+hp if you cannot afford to keep rubber on it plus track day expenses. How much effort and cost will it take to prepare for the track? Can you afford to bin it?
Anything with wheels is good fun around a track.
Take it from me I raced a $600 22yr old gpz250 around PI with a beer carton strapped to the front as a fairing and I have never laughed so much while being terrified by the fact that it was moving at such pace! Holding it flat in 5th over Lukey heights was definitely something I will remember forever - fun and scary at the same time! And what's more I wasn't the last one home!
Have now progressed onto 100cc 2 strokes for the same reason and as from tomorrow will have a ZXR250 in the garage as well. For me it's about having fun, not spending money.
You will have just as much fun on a 250 as a 10

I'm with Adrian. An old classic will be cheap to buy and cheap to run.
Too often I see guys selling their track/race bikes because they suddenly find out that they can't afford the fuel, tyres, new fairings, constant servicing etc.

want my zxr250 trackie

wattie will approve of the beast
400's are cheap, good on rubber and parts for the vfr400 ,cough cough, are easily found. and that also goes for the zxr400, RB imports can sort you with the parts and servicing (if needed).
IMO i love the smaller bikes and amazed at the times there capable of
as said above, anything will be fun on the track

Smithy, based on other memebers experiences and having ridden my 10 at EC and PI, and another very kind members 6 at EC, I thoroughly loved the 6 on the track. Hence my recent addition of a 6 tracky! Best thing would do is come have a look at the next trackday in Sydney and see what other members have to say, have a look at their bikes and get opinions first hand!

Thanks Rob I'll do that, I am deffinately leaning towards a 6, but I keep seeing these cheap 250 imports and it makes me wonder what the pros and cons are.

The 250's are hilarious - and parts pretty easy to come by on ebay etc.
Nothing better than going around the outside of bigger bikes!
