mate I use maxima chain wax in the black and gold can, available from most bike shops for around $15. coat the chain once in the inside and once on the outside...done !

if your like me then you park it up and go inside and leave it till the morn.
now this is the important part.
The next day you forget about it and then just ride it.
The english love to cover the bikes with wd40 to keep the road crud at bay. but they have salted roads so the need all the help they can get to keep things clean.

You mean you don't already have lube Kev! tut-tut
Some swear by wax, others by lube - try a few out and see which you like.
With some lubes you get a fair bit of fling-off - lube all over your wheel, swingarm, fairing etc - but normally only if you put too much on.
If you don't like Hoffy's wax, I always used Motul Chain Lube. Up on the stand, start her up, put it in first and spray inside and out for about 3 seconds each. When commuting I did that once a week, and straight after any wet ride.

WARNING: Guy I met with a GS500 at the shops had a TOTALLY MANGLED thumb, split in half DOWN THE MIDDLE, 2/3rds of the way down his thumb.
His STORY goes: was doing exactly this, picked up a rag from under the bike, got caught in the chain, thumb followed it around the sprocket.
I've got a green pressurised can of something white, does the job.
A simple clean with Kero every so often is a good idea too, to get the crud off. Don't use WD40 as discussed in another thread, can hurt the sealed lube in the chain o-rings. (?)
I was advised lube every tank refill or 2, more in the wet.

Yeah well - it goes without saying (I think) not to touch, or stick a rag/cloth/whatever, on a moving chain!
That was just stupid.
Motul Chain Cleaner also works well for cleaning - though I've used kero and diesel too

Yea i know i haven't done it yet

cause in the past i would have sent my bike back to the shop every 2 weeks or so and they would service it and do shit to it and still not fix the problem. Now that they have sorted out the problem with my bike and it seems to be working fine i have to do the dirty work.
Thanks for the vid dilligaf, very helpful. Off to the shop for some "maxima chain wax in the black and gold can" tomorrow!
Also do we have some maintenance day for noobs like me? would love to learn how to do this kinda stuff properly.
