Z1000 down

Jeff had his bike parked outside a friend's house last night, and has parked there many times before so thought nothing of parking there again last night. The road is a gentle hill, and the bike was parked so the side stand was on the downhill side. Because his Z1000 has been raised to account for the undertail pipes, the bike does lean over quite a long way further than normal. He came out from the house about 11:30pm to find the bike on the ground, smashed mirror, end broken off the handlebar, & a 5cm x 5cm dent in the tank with a lot of paint off around it. He's not sure if the wet road may have cause the side stand to slip, or if it was too overbalanced, or maybe if it was nudged by a car :?

So, it's off to Simca this week to get quotes to get the tank repaired, and perhaps a new colour scheme that he has been thinking about for a while. As the nut has been snapped off the end of the handlebar, he is considering a new custom handlebar plus barends from AuSFR, & new set of bar end mirrors. We will wait for the quote, but we don't think that there is any point in claiming on insurance. By the time we pay excess of $300, and then at renewal time the rating will drop from a 1 to a 3, which would mean a 50% increase in this renewal plus next years renewal at a rating 2, well you get the picture. So, watch this space for pics of the new and improved Z1000.

Sorry to hear about the lay down. Poor bike must have been tired.

On the bar end mirrors from AuSFR I had a pair on my Z and they looked good but were too small to be affective and the glass ended up falling out of both of them. I now have some on the ZRX that are a much better product and will bolt straight to the standard handlebars. Phil and Jetpilot have the same ones and they are ordered from the states for between $160 and $180 depending on the exchange rate. Let me know if you are interested and I'll give you the link.

Are they the "Chrispy" bar end mirrors from a fellow on the ZRXOA forum Nelso? He's got Napoleon bar end mirrors at the moment, which he really likes but are really hard to find.

They are Jason's as Chrispy no longer does them, but yeah they are off ZRXOA. My ones from AuSFR were the billet ones and looked great but were not that practical and fell apart so was warning you off them just in case they were the ones he was after.

They were these ones:

I have to admit I am secretly very glad that it was his Z1000 and not my new baby! He is riding my Z1000 until his is fixed though...hopefully things won't happen in threes!

Nelso, I mentioned the mirrors to him, and he is strongly considering them. I'll let you know if he decides to get them.

Saki, the colour scheme that Jeff has had in mind is red and black following the contours of the tank and tail. He had considered doing it with decals of some form, but now the whole tank has to be resprayed it might as well be done in the two colours if possible.

I've got some like that on the Surfer at the moment. I got them a lot cheaper somewhere on ebay, rather than AuSFR, and yes all the grub screws came loose until I loctited them all. Since then they've been great.

Well, the Z1000 is in at Simca for panelbeating (is that the word for popping dents out of a tank?) and respraying. Jeff has decided on a pearl black with a red sheen (in the sun) finish, and the contours of the tank and tail wil be sprayed red with a silver pinstripe to outline. It's costing a damn fortune, so it had better look good! :)

Mine is orange and black. Similair to the current detailing, but will include the ducktail as well.

We have finally got around to taking some photos of the respray. The photos don't show that the black has a red speckle through it, which shows in the sun.
