Some KSRC history.

For those interested...

KSRC started sometime in 99, can't remember exactly when as it wasn't reallty suppose to be anything long term, just a test case for a web site I was running. (a zx7r site that has long since dissapeared with the free hosting company that was hosting it..)

There wasn't many Aussie motorcycle forums around at the time (unlike now, where it apears everyone has one of there own.. :-) ). There was a few in the US but that was a bit too far to go for a ride...

Its first incarnation was a Yahoo Club (hence the KSRC, C for Club not forum or group or whatever else is used these days). Yahoo Clubs was similar to Yahoo groups, which is still around now.
It was that similar that Yahoo decided to merge the Yahoo Clubs into Yahoo Groups and KSRC became a Yahoo Group in Oct of 2001.
The Yahoo group is still there, although locked to stop the spamming.
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/KSRC/

We only had a geocities home page at the time to promote the site as that was free and we had no income.
Thats also still there but pretty crappy and out dated.
http://geocities.com/ksrc_au/

In March of 2004 the Yahoo Group had about 500 + members and was getting too big for the basic free hosting site, so after a discussion at the Wsbk round that year it was decided to step it up to something similar to what appears before you.

When the new forum started in March 04 we had about 500 members
In March of 06 we had 1000 members
In April of 08 we had 2000 members
Today we have 3000 members.

Exactly how many are active are unknown as a lot of ppl join but never post.
They also join but don't log in as you don't need to unless you post.
We do remove as many dodgy sign ups as we can find but still know a lot get through...

So there you have it, KSRC for the last 10 years..
Perhaps we should have a 10th anniversary or birthday party at the end of the year. :D

Hi Dave,

Thats cool - great to see it grow and it seems to attract great people as well.

I've not seen any mention of financial support for the site (new glasses on order tho)....is there a volunteer contribution system available for those who want to provide it? Is it wanted / needed? Would it create more problems than solve? Just a thought rambling in the vacant corridoors of my mind........

Like the idea of the party at the end of the year - 10 years is special.

Cheers,
:D

Currently our finances are in good order.

We already have enough for this years hosting and domain registrations with some to spare thanks to the merchandise sales and donation from Mornington Kawasaki.

Theres is a thread called Free lunch and Free beer that has a papypal account for Dan, who looks after the site hosting, if anyone is that way inclined.

Not sure what to do with the extra funds we have atm.
I asked a while back about promotion ideas and the like but it didn't really go anywhere.
We did the flyers, printed and posted out a stack but that seems to have died a death, not many ppl got into that one (thanks to those that did). If ppl can't print them themselves and want any to hand out to shops and the like or stickers, PM me and I'll send some out...

Soooo, what can we do to spread the word further.??..
or do we need too, ?

Perhaps we just blow the extra bucks on booze for the 10th birthday party.. :D :D

thats the spirit !!! :kuda:

How about the Xmas party/track day incorporates the 10th Birthday for KSRC this year ?? It could be a good incentive for some northern & southern members to make the trek northwards, do a big day out at EC, and have a huge piss-up at Chez MadKaw ??

How about it Qld and Vic ?? Are you up to the challenge ??

Sat 5/12 or Sat 12/12 are the first 2 Saturdays in December.......

Good idea. Could use the extra money to pay for the active SA members to make the trek. ;)

Nice to see the history of this places is available!

A party/track day sounds like a great idea. :kuda:

Might i suggest that you download the Geocities site as i know that they are closing up in the near future. So for historys sake, put it somewhere safe and make it available for others to see should thay wish to go looking! :?

Good thinking Gos, I have checked the ECRD dates & the Sat the 12th could be a winner, Dave (MK) do you want to lock in a date now in order to give members plenty of time to mark in the calender & book in?
