Bike running lean?

Was just wondering how you would know if your bike was running lean?

Is a slip on and an air filter outside of the ECU's capabilities to adjust itself? Also is running your bike lean doing it damage?

might be just outside the possibilities of the ECU... and yes running lean can cause damage, all depends on how lean and how long it runs for...

is this for you?? i thought u had a juice box??

Yeah is for me but after reading up about the combo on their site and a few other's they recomend that you use the juice box to stop the bike running lean with their slip on....(comes mapped to their pipe)....

And they recommend Re-mapping with an aftermarket filter....Just wondering if it's worth doing or not,If it's going to cause damage than I will....I just thought the ECU might adjust for it itself....

I wouldn't have thought a slip on and filter would be too much of a problem. A full exhaust would be. If it were too lean it would possibly be pinging a bit under load also I think. I've got a slip on and a filter on the tracky and it seems to run OK

my ZX10 had a slip on and an aftermarket filter, when ont he dyno at tex's he said it was running a little rich, good for road, but if i was racing he'd lean it out a little.

so im thinkin they come fairly rich from factory to take into account most conditions IE riding in the mountoons in places alot higher than australias mountooons

Lean will sorta make the engine rev harder/quicker but not make as much power. I doubt you could really tell on a EFI bike.

The ECU can't self adjust A/F ratios as it doesn't have the 02 sensor to work off, so nothing self adjusts, whatever has been programmed into the ECU is how it will stay, ignition and fuelling wise.

The bikes run on the rich side out the factory anyway, so you *might* be able to get away with it.

You could seize the engine if your lucky/unlucky . BTW you should have kept your RGV!!!!!

I am with Glen, it shouldn't be a problem without the juicebox and even less so with it even if your only using preset website maps.

My bug has a slip on and K&N with 173rhp on Tex's dyno and said it was running fine.

With just the slip on and juice box yes,After the filter it hasn't......

if its running lean aslo it will get hotter than normal.
is it easy to start from cold?
does it run better when its cold or warm?
if it runs better when cold, theres a sign of to lean, if it runs better when warm its a sign of richness
you should be fine, with the juice box and all,, although to be certain you could put it on the dyno and get them to A/F it

I would run a standard filter..

Before i go back to the standard I might take it to TJ's and give it a run just to see....I called them about a month ago after the head got done to have another run to see if it made any difference....I think they said $70 for a power run on a saturday but the dyno was out of order as they were moving it....
If it does the A/F ratio on the run I might do that first just to check it out either way.....

Any body else want to do a run on the same day? (will give him a ring tomorrow to confirm that price)
