Fuel System cleaners in bikes?
Fuel System cleaners in bikes?
Hi.
My '99 ZX6 has been running a bit rough lately, so a mate suggested I try some fuel system cleaner before going to the expense of taking it to a mechanic. He said it's worth a try at least...
now I've heard that it's not too good to put additives into bikes cos it can dammage them.
Is this true?
Has anyone tried it before? do you think it's worth trying?
Cheers
Chris

I ahve used addatives in my zx6 05 with no problems. it helps get any moisture out of the tank. you may also have a vaccum problem so need to balance throttle bodies.

I'm following this with great interest, I was thinking the same thing, I has a look at some at Supercheap auto and it claims that the additive can be used in all petrol engines....hopefully more feedback will be follow.

OK, so I'm going to bite the bullet and stick some in my tank today if the weather fines up enough to go for a ride!
I've got some Nulon Fuel system Cleaner sitting in the shed that was brought for the wifes car. We'll see how it goes and I'll keep you posted of any results (weather they're good or otherwise).
If anyone has advise against me doing this, speak up now (or at least before the rain stops)
... This could be risky

Nulon one of the better ones on the market mate.
Just make sure you follow the directions re qty additive vs qty fuel.
If moisture is your culprit , the Nulon will clear that up normally plus help clean out the carbs .

I always use the shit.
Takes a couple of treatments to do any good and don't be shy with the rev's to get cobwebs out either

Re: Fuel System cleaners in bikes?
Ok, so I put some in my tank this morning, and rode to work and back...
The result... Bloody Fantastic!
Before I did anything, I was struggling to get the bike over 7000rpm, and now it gets up there no worries.
It still has a couple of issues, but I'll see how it goes after a second treatment... It is fairly high in the K's afterall so there's probably some other things I'll need to get done by a mechanic anyway sooner or later...

Re: Fuel System cleaners in bikes?
2 x treatments is always a good idea, to help clean out deposits in the carbs - and yeh, the Nulon-brand stuff is the ducks guts....
Fuel treatment stuff won't harm your motor - 1 bottle every 6 months is enough to keep the insides of the carbs sparkly clean. If you have an injected bike, Wynns do a good injector cleaner, but its also hard to beat a good clean in the ultrasonic bath down at your local Bosch Dyno place....this does mean removing the injectors, not always an option for some people.....
