Any hints and tips on an "easy" way get them off, done the chain, done the rear but the front don't wanna budge!!!

I've tried a rattle gun, a long extension bar and my (considerable) weight, mate holding the rear brake on and a timber stopper through the rear wheel to prevent it spinning, but I can't even crack it!!! The bike is 36000 k old and its the factory sprocket.

Any wisdom from the guru's?

more leverage on the socket.....longer bar?
the manual says the not is done up to 120nm which isn't that tight so it might have some crap in the thread.....spray some wd40 and let it sit overnight??

Drill it out....

Rattle gun is the only way, trust me. Don't try to exert massive leverage on the nut, you only risk rounding the nut off then you're really up the creek (not EC). Been down this road a few times meself....

If the Front sprocket nut is anything like that on the ZX10 and has a locking washer behind it then make sure that you have hammered the locking washer completely flat all the way around. I couldnt budge mine and then when i had another go after finidng a large socket and hammer to hammer the washer behind flat it came right off. Still required the use of a 4ft breaker bar and two people... oh and try using a 6 sided socket... that stopped it slipping off and rounding the edges.

Good luck Plas - I tried doing this same job on Mel's old ZX6......it was a fuckin' nightmare. Did the 4' long breaker bar, impact driver everything you could think og - even went and hired a rattle gun, supposed to be good for up to 250nm.......what a load opf shit, the nut *would not* budge.....

Took into the local dealer - 2 days later they rang. It was off - but it had also required the use of the blue chisel (oxy) to heat the nut up - and not just once, but TWICE they had to use the gas axe to heat that fucker up.......it eventually relented. I think they have a 6' breaker bar in the workshop for this job - the boys reckon that the robot which tightens them up at the factory is a big bastard........

If you have oxy, have a go. But be careful, don't go turning the nut red or anything, otherwise you run the risk of melting the output shaft seal !! Lots of small applications over a short period is the trick.....

You could be lucky - if it has the locking washer, then these don't usually get done up too tight - the locking washer does all the work.

What model 6's come out with the locking washer's Gos?...Might come in handy if my spocket's ever come......

I don't think the 6's, or most of the late-model kwakka's have locking washers ? I know Mel's didn't, my 12 didn't, Bogan's ZXR didn't (although that is a few years old...) - but Mike's RF900 might have the locking washer....

they are so much easier to work with. Front sprocket changes should be a 10 minute job !!!

The only way I could get my nut off was with a electic rattle gun. Bike in gear and somone sitting on it with the rear brake on. Need to do the same when you torque it up.
