My 19 yo son has got a bug up his ass. Wants a Ducatti. Hes got money. I dont like them. Any thoughts

Good to see he has money cause he will need it for spares, repairs and servicing.

Thats what I told him..

does he wish it to be rideable for more than 5 weeks a year ? if so dont get a Ducrappy !

the duc is nice to the eye if it's a good model but the wallet twitches at the thought....

Hows this for the first post in a while...... For something different I will disagree with all the above .
Mistruths and myths.
Depends on which model your son is looking at / thrusting after.
Alot of the innuendo regarding Ducati reliability is based on long past history. Electrics were dodgey in the past, not anymore. Servicing costs? Now on par with Japanese dealerships and less frequent. Initial outlay....More than a Mass produced UJM but you are looking at something that is a bit more unique and definitely more loveable if not liveable.
I rode a Sport 1000 last year with the intention of buying a Sport 1000s and decided within 2km that it was pathetic and far too badly designed and priced for my needs and wants. But they still sell them. Let your son arrange a test ride on the model he wants and on the same day go and test a like Yamakawasuzonda. Approach it from a practical viewpoint and see what boxes get ticked.

And by the way Hoffy what would you know your still a fucktard.

Adrian, do you really think the servicing cost are comparable? I have friends that have 1098's and they are salary sacrificing the whole deal servicing included cos the costs for this was too high even for them....

I ride with a couple of 1098's & I have to admit they are a bloody nice machine.
But at the end of the day I have as bigger smile as anyone else & I am almost as fast on the Rex.
Even if I could afford a Ducati I dont think I would buy one.
I guess its made on what ever does it for you, but I have a little smile in my helmet when I think about how much cash they have spent.
Good on him if he can really afford it but he needs to realise there are many smiles to be had on a much cheaper machine.
Just my 2 cents worth..........thats all I can afford.......

I have seen this done in euro bike mags and the jap bikes have better designed engines with better tolerances and better design by default.

Differant people have differant bikes for differant reasons. How could anybody really give advice when they have no idea what this person is planning on doing with this bike. Maybe they're looking for a bike they can lock away and pull out of the shed in 30 years with some value still attached to it? Maybe they want to just sit it in front of the cafe while they have their feet up sipping a mocca? Maybe they have enough money to burn to be able to purchase, upkeep, ride, and still enjoy a Ducati.

If you love a brand enough it won't matter if its a brand everyone says is shit, a brand that is so common you see one every 30 sec's going down the highway, a brand that is more expensive than any other, or a brand that will never hold the prestige of winning a major race world title.

I know what i mean even though i may not have comminicated it well
