If you were looking to upgrade your laptop, what would you buy and why?

It's for general use. I have a Dell and it has been reliable, but is a bit old now.
Hoff, I think all Dells come preloaded with Vista these days.

Col, depending on brand, you can still get XP.

Vista is just a visual gimmick IMO....We still use XP for all our work PC's and laptop's cause they are all networked and run machinery made b4 vista was brought out.
I use Vista at home and is pretty

.....I did try using voice command's for a while but the novelty soon ran out

look vista is OK, but it's just not a reliable, will freeze up your memory when running heaps of apps, is a memory hogg and is less compatiable with 3rd party software and harware like printers etc..but it's OK.
I run it, but I prefered XP. easier to use.
I think dell give you an option, but if you have to get vista just update it asap and hopefully your printer and periph's will work.

I've always wanted a laptop - little blond one about 160cm tall........
On a more serious note - Toshiba have usually been good for me personally. I've installed plenty of Dell's as well and they are excellent as well.
Wouldn't use Vista as XP is way faster and more stable on same hardware platform. After running Vista at home I went back to XP pretty quickly.
Cheers,
