so, who listens to music on the bike? and how? and when? and uh.... other details?
i've never really thought about it. my phone has fm, and i tried that about a year ago or so, but it sucks when you run outta range and can't be bothered to stop to get rid of the static!
but now-a-days wif mp3 players and all...... i have a little mp3 player, but the earbuds suck! then i saw these sony fontopia things..... haven't tried them yet, but i know a few ppl who use them, look good. (review here as well as neilP!)
anyway, just wondering about thoughts on this topic??? may have to try these new (for me) earbuds from sony and see what i think: safety-wise, sound, etc......

I listen to the sweet sound of the 636... and of course listen for wankers in cages!

I found a pair of $2 head phones at one of the local "cheap as shit" shops...

They are the bud type, but have the piece that wrap around the back of the ear. They worked a treat, until my MP3 player broke. Now I listen to the bike.

I gave Susans new MP3 player a go yesterday. I don't like it up so loud that I can't hear everything else and I've got to get different headphones. The std ones where a bit uncomfortable. I think I'm going to have to nick it when I do the 7 hour (at the speed limit) ride to Brisbane. Its quite pleasant to have a little background music when your cruising and the only one on the road.

I've only just achieved wearing sunnies with my helmet, listening to music is way off in the future!

minidisc player withthese new sony earbud style ear-thingys, they are smaller then the standards sony ones at 80 a pop not cheap ut excellent sound quality.
I carry it on a dririder tank bag with the clear map cover and if youve enough crap in it you can still push on the buttons to skip songs or change volume.
Other then that the nokia on radio is other alternative.

Note. do not listen to rock your heart out by ac/dc on a double flybuys points weekend, it sorta affects your riding

I haven't bothered to listen to music in the helmet...

I use the mini disc, in the jacket pocket, with the remote on the ear phone plug to control volume, tracks, etc..

And sony head phones.. normal small earphones, but they have a slightly different rubber surround, that fits inside there ear.. I find it handy for keeping the plugs in my ears.. And they def sound the goods..

They hurt my ears after about 45min or so though... And as Steve said, music selection is key if you want to stay around the speed limit... hehehe

why?
one of my mates got in big trouble for not pulling up
when the cops hit the 'notes' when behind him.
He did not hear them as the Rolling Stones were blocking
the police siren.... the cops had to pull up next to him
and wave him down
The 'failure to comply' fine hurt

thats why my eyes also become my ears, listening to music tends to make me more aware of surroundings and watch mirrors closer, especially on the M5 the way those hoons drive jeez anyone would think they were on a bike the way some try to change lanes!

U have seen my sony earbuds(MDR-EX71), havn't u?
They are great, I luv them.

i bought a little fm radio with headphones but everytime time i put the helmet on the headphone fall out so i've given up.

very interested in the topic,
on the road, weighing up safety -vs- benefits is a big concern!

benefits include;
- more powerful
- smoother
- faster

(raised a similar topic on another forum <click here> if ya wanna have a squiz at it)

believe that ppl on this forum (KRSC) are a bit more sports/safety orientated,
hence you may be able to appreciate the dilemma

how about the track?
as with no mirrors at the track, can you also do without hearing?

if ya do, does it get ya into a/the zone?

Minidisc player in my pocket, headphones tucked in behind the lining of my helmet so they poke out just behind the strap. I just set the player to repeat/shuffle and lock the controls before I ride.

Been riding with this setup for 2.5 years now. Never had a problem with being able to hear other traffic etc.
I can try and snap a pic if anyone is interested in the headphones in the helmet thing

I can't add much beyond what I wrote in the review, other than that I don't hear much of the traffic noise with the Yoshi pipe on anyway, so it's really just a choice of muted pipe and good tunes or full on pipe
