NEW RIDER

have had a bike years ago, and have recently gotten back on a bike again. I am fully aware that technology has changed since I first rode a bike. I have a 2004 zzr250 with only 1750ks on it when i bought it 12 months ago. It now has 15,500ks on the clock. I was told by my mechanic that it will need a new chain and sprocket by 18k. I feel that this is a bit soon for a chain replacement. also recently the bike feels to develop a very rough, growling vibration through the whole bike when cruising between 60-80ks. If I change down and accellerate it goes away briefly, but as soon as I slow down it comes back??????

could be the rpm's being low, what gear do you have it in at that speed???
and you change your chain and sprockets when you have no more adjustment to go.
