Bushfire appeal - P.I. Supers - What ya think.?

As was mentioned previously and had been suggested to me by a number if members, is there interest in running a bushfire appeal at he World Superbike round at P.I.?
If ppl want to do this, we would need some one / ppl (preferably who will have there bike there and can ride around), who will be there for the 3 days to look after this.
Not sure of the best way to do this, so I would suggest the volunteer or volunteers contact the Red Cross to get info and find out if anyone else will be collecting there..
AS KSRC is usually one of the biggest or most noticable clubs / groups at these events we are probly in a good position to do something.
Any thoughts.?
Is it something we should do.?
Is there enough places to donate already.?
Will we be trusted for ppl to give us money.?
Is there some one already doing it there.?
Will being pissed detract from our otherwise moral appearance or will it enhance it..?

etc, etc...

i think donation is neccesary but i also believe that there are often too many ways to give to charities/charities full stop... but if we're collecting on behalf of the red cross then thats fine by me...

You may have to check with the organisers for permission as well as to find out if there are already people collecting eg Red Cross may be there. If that is the case then I think KSRC should not collect as well as it could create friction. There is however nothing wrong with KSRC collecting within the club and making one larger donation than many smaller ones.

On one of the other forums I'm on, have set up an account for donations as well as a couple of suppliers/sponsors have given some products to be raffled away to raise money as well, they have a set number of tickets and when those are sold they draw the raffle. They have a couple of raffles running with prizes ranging in value from $100 to $2500 and are selling tickets for $10 a ticket.
Just a thought

Don't you have to be officially recognised and display something from the government, to take money from the public.

I think you'd have to tee things up with P.I. and it's promoters, the red cross and use our new affiliation with Kawasaki as leverage. I would expect something has already been organised, but it doesn't mean we can't all throw in and make one big publicised donation (perhaps tell Kwak were doing it if they wanna contribute etc).

Well i've already Signed up to do the red cross doorknock appeal in my street and will be getting a book and all the paraphenalia too. So if you get the go-ahead to do this, then i can use my little shiny badge to help with the collection before i kick off the collection in my street when i get back to Sydney. Also being located trackside for the 3+ days, im sure there is a commonwealth bank on/near the Island (or the way back) that the donations can be deposited at.

Only problem with the PI Supers is that a lot of people have already given. The timing's a little off.
Personally, I've donated 2 of my annual leave days (the pay goes to the Salvo's), I've tin rattled around the airport and I've also offered to donate my time to help re-wire houses for free (for people with no insurance). That plus around the money I've already donated to the red cross.
People are going to stop giving at some point.
