What are your "Bike Rituals" or "Superstitions"???

After riding for a while now I'm starting to notice habits (mostly good ones) forming that are particular to motorcycling my way.

Some are safety or functional Some of mine:
"1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand"

I wear a cotton inner-glove inside my right glove but not my left. I just like the feeling on the throttle, but not on the clutch.

So, anyone else got some?

They could be functional, safety, ritualistic, stylistic or superstition.

I'm thinking like Steve Waugh taking the same red rag with him onto the ground for hundreds of games, or a golfer lifting and dropping the same shoulder before every shot.

I always hit the start button before a ride.........neverfail.........does that count?????

actually now i think about it, whenever i'm done for the day and putting my bike away in the shed i've always give it a slap on the pillion seat, a bit of a "thanks for the ride" i guess. must be something i do to show affection because i'm always slapping my wife on the bum aswell.
neither have bucked me off yet!!

So Tim that either makes you an old fart or gay
 saw an old dude yesterday with this driving gloves on & had to have a chuckle, it was 40 deg in the shade & he had no air con & the windows down......I am guessing the sweaty palms needed to be covered up. :o

As for Bike Rituals I always wack on the helmet strap it up & "shake" my head to check for fit. hat25.gif

I am a superstitious rider I guess- I have a lucky shirt that I like to wear on long rides (must be getting a bit smelly by now!)

I figure the day that I don't wear my back protector will be the day that I REALLY need it, so my conscience makes me put it on for big rides no matter how restricted it makes me feel. And I figure the day I squid will be the day of the 'big one.'

rituals?

...safety check ALWAYS before getting on (brakes lights tyre pressure etc)
whether its to the local Bunnings or half way across the state

start engine before putting gloves on

hold bike upright when re-fuelling

finally
chain grease when you finishd the ride but before putting the bike under wraps

I always wear the same t-shirt when I race. It's the one I brought back with me from the Nurburgring. Not sure if you guys have ever heard that story?? ;)

Sometimes I do a head-check before turning left from the left lane. Goes back to this one time some 'tard on a 250RR tried to zip up the inside of me going into a left turn.

Every time I pass a place that I've had an accident in (bike or car), no matter how long ago the accident took place, I take a glimpse to see if I've left any marks. Yallambi Nursing Home in Carlingford had a green mark for two years after I hit it.

Whenever some kid stares at me out of a car window, I make a face at them. Pretty useless inside a full-face helmet but still ...

Before I put on a pair of gloves (motorbike, MTB, gardening, dishwashing, whatever) I always mash them up a bit. Sharing a glove with a huntsman is not an experience I want to repeat.

i always turn the bike on then put on my helmet, put on my gloves then put on my jacket and then when i ride, every single time i stop at traffic lights i have to do this real quick neck stretch/flick to the right.
