My beautiful and loving ZXR750 was ran up the ass last night at the lights. I came out without a scratch, only a sore right ass cheek. I've just spoken to the mechanic and he has said the sub-frame is bent which could make it a write-off . He said the frame can be sent off to be straightened but it's fairly expensive and it's going to come down to the insurance company. I don't want to say goodbye to her whatsoever as she is still in great condition with plenty of life left in her. If i were to get market value back i really doubt i could find another bike to replace her - I'm firmly attached!

I thought i had to share with some like minded people as my parents, girlfriend, friends etc are saying "oh well, you can get a real mode of transport now!".

Bad luck onthe bike good luck on the injury Stakes! How's the neck? you have to watch the whiplash when you have a helmet on, the extra weight can really play havoc!
maybe it's time to turn the Old girl into a track bike if you can get it back from insurance if they write it off

Neck is fine, i kind of went with it!

I really wish i could get it back if they write it off but it just won't happen.

Insurance companies will quite often offer to sell the bike back to you. It reduce their cost. However before doing this get the parts/ repair list and cost so you know what you are up for.

Rear subframe is fully replaceable mate.......... only let them write it off if the MAIN frame is damaged
IF you don't like what their assessor says you are entirely within your rights to appoint your own "approved" assessor.

Arn't the subframes on the older stuff welded to the frame rather than bolted on as in later stuff????

From what you are saying, it is the other drivers insurance paying for this. As such, you have a little more control over this one. I would make demands from the other cars insurance company for whatever is reasonable to have the bike repaired or alternatively, for a value you KNOW you can replace her for!!!!

My mechanic was talking about repairing it and not replacing it. Unless he is able to find one from a wrecker? I don't know. Supposedly there is only one dude in Sydney who is able to repair frames and he is kept fairly busy.

I asked him not to write it off and do the best he can to keep her. I just think it will come back to the insurance company taking the cheapest option.

That would be Laurie Alderton I think, used to be a mob down here in Mexico called Bob Martins and this sort of shit was their specialty, alas when Bob Martin died TAC or Vic Roads pulled the pin on the business hence the above named is busy as bat shit now.

Newsflash, this is exactly what insurance companies do.. there is of course the off chance you get one with a heart, bu I suggest that's the exception rather than the rule..

Yea, just spoke to mechanic again and he said it is all adding up and will be written-off just waiting for a couple quotes. I hope the market value is at least what they will pay out and i guess it's looking for a new Kwaka! Give me some suggestions I'd like another ZXR but won't be the same as her

Yep bent subframe can be repaired but add the cost of everything else and it's not worth the effort. Mine was taken away just 5 hours ago for a similar thing and the assessor told me 'unofficially' I wont be seeing it again.
