Hey guys,

I don't know if this is the right place to be posting this question, but I'm just wanting to know peoples thoughts on insurance. I've been checking it out and all the little guys like 'Insure My Bike' and other obscure sounding places are SHITLOADS cheaper than your big companies but being 'No Name Brand' I'm just wanting peoples thoughts on them.

Caaarn, help a girl out! hahahaha :axe:

Just be aware that cheaper now doesn't always translate to best service when it's claim time.

Don't forget QBE and their "guaranteed lowest price" policy. I got mine knocked down by over $200 by ringing around and playing them off against each other.

Agreed 100% plus the most important thing is, you really need to read the policy conditions carefully between them, theres very often a reason one is cheaper than the other.

All my bikes/cars/house is insured with Shannons to me they are not the cheapest but offer the best policy conditions.

i know someone who works in a motorbike shop and she told me to go to sites like insure my ride and ebike to get quotes as they are cheaper then the bigger companies. you then go through QBE who i'm pretty sure match and then beat so you get it even cheaper. never insure through ebike or insure my ride as they don't ask for your VIN numbers so there's no way to prove that a) it's your bike and b) it was stolen/damaged etc. With QBE you should be able to choose your excess and you can add on all mods, your gear etc.

I had a look around for insurance a couple weeks ago and because i have a brand new bike, under 21 and 25 aswell as no riding experience etc etc some places wanted between $4000- $5500 for comp a year. the bike is only worth $7000!!!! the last place i tried was atleast $2000 cheaper then all the rest which was QBE, not to mention the nice staff discount i get because they sponsor my work :P

i'm sure fireyrob will tell you that my insurance is so expensive because i live next to "dodgy five dock".

hope this helps

Thanks heaps guys. I like to get people opinions on who they've dealt with etc but yeah the cheaper guys do seem a bit dodge but coz I have no riding experience and im under 25 the bigger guys are asking a ridiculous amount. Sounds like QBE might be a goer though hahaha

I disagree here, I use Insure my ride and they did ask me for my VIN, I found them very easy to deal with and will let you insure up to $2000 worth of accessories without question and the same goes for riding gear.
I have never made a claim through them though, and if you do insure your gear and accessories your premium will be increased to suit of course.

I personally will never give QBE or Swann another cent. :x
If you do pay-by-the-month with QBE you're actually entering into a third party finance agreement,ie, you're not paying your $ to QBE, but to a finance company. Will end up costing you about $120 over your quoted premium.
insure my ride are part of aami (i think). ebike is linked to shannons (so the shannons dude told me).
NRMA suck with quote system, but the Honda Rider has no complaints with their service when claiming.

Isnt this the case with 99% of all monthly payments to almost every business??? that's why they give the option cause in the end they make a few extra bucks and people don't read the fine print

I personally don't know anything, this was just what i was told by someone in the business, i didn't go with them cause they were wayyy expensive compared to others. but with decent companies like QBE who match and then beat i don't know how the smaller companies survive

The short answer is no. Most monthly payments attract a "service fee", like my house insurance, or my loan repayments, and I am fine with that. QBE's monthly payments go to a company called Victory Funding, what you are really doing is paying for a loan, as that company has already paid your yearly premium, you are now repaying a loan at finance interest rates, and the people making the (not so few) extra bucks are a finance company and not qbe at all.

And the NRMA will quote you extra if your bike has an "R" in the model name. Supposedly in their system the R means "racing", what a crock.

hey shez, got your license already?

i think our conditions are very similar, as i am under 25 and with no experience as well but QBE quoted me $1330 with $4000 gears and accesaries covered (i think it comes with standard cover)

i also obtained a quote online from 'insure my ride' which costs me $1100 with $1000 worth of gear coverd, so i am happy with QBE.

Isnt Five dock safer than West ryde where i am live in?
