A Bit Of Info If Posible

Question- Has anyone got an idea on the thickness of a standard magnesium (or similar) engine case cover, i.e. wall thickness.

I'm thinking they may be around 4-5mm thick?

Picking a brand spanker one up from a dark side store (more units being sold I'm afraid), can get the verniers on it but not picking up until Friday.

Question- Due to fluid pressures, what sort of tolerances could be got away with cover to case mating? Could you use a fluid gasket and allow to dry or can you get slightly thicker standard style?

Any info over the next day or so will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Damo

Most aftermarket race covers are substantially thicker / more webbing etc to help survive the inevitable drop or two but you no doubt already know this ;)

Re gaskets , providing the mating surfaces are perfectly clean , dry (lean bike to opposite side when doing cover , allow to cure for a couple hours ) Ultra grey RTV sealant will take up a fair degree of imperfection.

If the cover is distorted / poor machining on the gasket surface , a sheet of 400g wet n dry and a sheet of glass work well to remove the high spots.

hope it helps Damo

Now my first incarnation will be a bolt on cover cover 2mm thick teraphalic infused solid carbon. I will callibrate the case so the cover will sit correctly, so the external face is oversize 2mm.
Now I had an intension of producing the complete case but under further investigation there are quite a few engineered sections within the case including bearing races  , the clutch mechanism has an internal structure which is required and there are three threaded openings in it, all can be done but not overnight, so case cover cover first.

I will be working on the project over the Xmas period, no fucking around this time, time is now right, mainly cus I've got some time :D and the economy isn't great so I'd better get a few bits and pieces moving.

Started doing a bit on a business name and card/logo design, fark this shit sucks up time, should be able to get a few things finalised over Xmas and I know a good printer who can help me out with my business requirements ;)
