Hi there... I am new to this site as I am at present riding a Honda Firestorm that I unfortunately crashed last weekend.... ooops.
I am now thinking of getting a ZX12R but I am just wondering about a couple of things on the model updates of this classic bike, I am pretty sure the radial brakes brakes came in in 2003... is that right? But what is the deal on the change of gearbox from 6spd to 5spd....? and why?
Hope you can help...
The Councillor

,,,,got to luv the 12

,,,,to answer your ?s,,,,,03 being b3 didn't have the radial brakes but the old 6 pot calipers,,,,,no 12r ever came out with a 5 speed box,,,,,end of 04 to 05 came the b4 with the brake up grade and the 05 b4 was the only model with black rims and other mods,,,,,,then 06 being the b6 was the last,,,,,,hence the start of the 14r

cheers paul

No 12's were 5 speed - all 6 speed, that looks like an 04 and 06, they are exactly the same apart from colour, no mechanical or equipment difference.
They are a bulletproof machine, not much can go wrong, except general neglect and crash damage.

yes, 04 was the major 'Mechanical' change with new radial brakes, revised swingarm pivot, new 32 bit ecu, different front end (forks), softer rear spring, change of injectors, these parts remained in effect until the B6 (06 model). the 03 did change to to the new bodywork though a year earlier, but was esentially the same bike as the 00,01,02.
and of course the 00 and 01's are unrestricted, so you can do more than 299Kmh if you need to..the 02-06 are restricted to 299kmh..

Shameful for a Kawasaki dealer to make a mistake like that

as as a 12R owner..I gotta agree with the Hoffmeister
I wanted to go over 299...so I bought an unrestricted A model
then did a sprocket change to accelerate quicker
gotta luv the 12

The ZRX1200 (Naked bike) had a 5 speed box though. Definately buy yourself a 12 though Councillor, you won't regret it..

Yes indeed another fan of the "Magic School bus" 12r
Fella's it's "Can't go Past a 12" as in "ya can't go Past a 12". Scotty37(Jonno) came up with a coupla millenia back when he had one.
The 9r gets the Love factor. Surely the 12r doesn't need to cash in on the 9r's skirt tails.
Compared to the "fireyawn" it may as well a 5 speed box. It's Gonna rip your helmet off champ!.
Better get the radial brakes model so you "reign her in".

They drag their guts on the deck before they ride off the tyres & I believe Hammer WAS a little soft in the Framage department. Other then that no real complaints from the "MSB" owners.
Cheers Nanna

I have just taken out a 2005 ZX12R for a test ride... so much different to the storm so smooth in the power delivery, very comfortable indeed and handles the twisty stuff pretty well to. So if all goes well with the insurance on Monday it will be mine by the end of the week. It is bog standard so I will need to hit you up for info on set up and mods.

I picked Up ZX12R in Brisbane on Wednesday night, Very Happy with choice it is 2003 and has 7700k on the clock and a power commander mapped to suit. full race titanium acropovic exhaust system with carbon fibre tri muffler, muzzy de-restrictor unit, muzzy adjustable timing rotor, carbon fibre ram air duct covers, tank panel, tank protector, rear hugger. 3/4 polished wheels, goodridge braided lines front and rear. Affam gold rear sprocket 1 tooth up on std. short stem rear flashers. Clear lens kit. This bike has extra 3 layers of clear on paint for extra protection and deep gloss. Race stand lugs. Gold anodised oil filler cap. also have a mra dark tint double bubble screen 2 go with the bike. Bike gets oil/filter change every 1000klms with full synthetic oil. Have service history.
Better that new in some ways.
Time to ride.....
