A MOTORCYCLIST clocked at 244km/h after a bad night at work was travelling the fastest a magistrate has ever dealt with.

Sean Michael Wynne, 25, was yesterday jailed for four months, with a magistrate saying his fate should be a a wake-up call to any would-be lead foot.

Wynne, from Lake Macquarie, told police he had a bad night at work and "just opened it up" when he was detected by radar travelling 244km/h is a 90km/h zone in Newcastle on October 17.

"This is the highest speed I've ever seen in a court," Magistrate Michael Morahan said.

Mr Morahan said it was imperative the court set an example and deterrent to young people caught driving at such reckless and dangerous speeds.

"I need to step in and show the community it's no use just making warnings. It seems a lot of people your age commit these types of offences and the only thing they understand is jail," Mr Morahan said.

Police were conducting speed checks on Hillsborough Rd at 12.50am, when they detected Wynne speeding along on his red and black Honda CBR 1000 bike.

The court was told Wynne, who works as a storeman, was travelling at such speed that police were unable to catch up to him, but later caught up with him at his house, where he admitted to the dangerous driving offence.

The magistrate said imprisonment was the only choice of penalty for such an action.

This guy is a BIL to one of the guys I know from another forum (not bike related) and he didn't have the best driving/riding history, so their is a little more to it. But I can't really see a gaol sentace being justified esp when you see other incidents like that waste of oxygen that had been repeatedly convicted of DUI and driving unlic or while on suspension over the last 5 or so years then kills someone while speeding, unlic and under drunk and on drugs and he only gets 1 or 2 years and his lic suspended for another 10 years, you think it would be obvious that this oxygen theif would still drive regardless of what the courts hand out, he should be in gaol for a lot longer and have been convicted of murder IMO.

It's an outrage, esp when repeat child molesters get a slap on the wrist and let go - or released to live next door to their victim. Sure, 240+ on a road is silly, but it does not deserve jail time.

WOW!! 244kph nice, haha even though it was a hooonda. Yes he deserves it but bloody hell make an example of him and act on more harshly on more dangerous things like dyi and fatal smashs. People are getting of so little these days, its like they want people to do these offenses to raise more money for the goverment. They should be the ones pulling there heads in.
