Electric Motorbike!

Hey guys,
Well i am having mixed emotions, on the 1 hand there is nothing better than the roar of a petrol powered bike engine its just part of the experience, but is it worth the trade off for having not many running costs at all?
But certainly a clean machine. Its some bloke who put an electric motor in a petrol powered bike, Kawasaki too!
He reckons he gets close to 80km/h top speed.
Just gets me thinking, what will the Ninja of the next decade be like if it had an electric motor ?
Enjoy!

its cool.
The potential for electric motor application is huge.... Despite the recent gains with horsepower on combustion engines, we will always be limited by displacement and how it impacts engine size. With electric engines we currently have the problem that we cannot provide enough battery power to make them super fast... but battery energy storage is an area which has a huge potential for improvement... and electric motors are nearly unlimited in the capacity to provide torque.... I think in the future we will see awesome improvements in electic bikes...

How about 174mph?

I've been following this thing for a while now. 7.89s @ 174mph.

the same way they doubted that a home computer could never fit inside a normal household room...

Electric motors and Electrochemical storage of energy has a lot of potential, just needs a bit more research to get it to where it needs to be

Sheesh that bike is dam fast!
just makes me think, how far off is this kind of technology before it becomes common place, if it becomes common place and what are the limits!
But i definately agree, biggest problem is the battery life! My dad rides an eletric pushbike to work every day, i have ridden this thing many times cause its so dam fun. Has a top speed of 60km/h with some pedal power also. But its always good fun to zip around town, and also when you go along the bike tracks and you see the pro's out there in there lyrca body suits on there expensive road bikes and you can go wizzing past on a mountain bike sitting upright!
Oh gets about 50km's to a full charge and takes a few hours to charge up fully! Battery pack only weights a kg or 2 so its pretty light, but heaps of fun!

I really like the idea of electric but will be sad to see the roar of the combustion engine go... a whirr is just no match for the ludicriously loud nitro drag bikes

hybrid is where its at, electric is good, but will always have limited range, and you cant refuel in a few minutes. I would much rather have a car that I can refuel, and have run off the engine when the batteries are getting low

I was thinking about it and thought what is they made a hybrid that was electric but also had an ethanol powered motor ?
Some cleaver cookies in India have also started to create biofuel from algae!
