4 DAYS AT THE ISLAND

Well unfortunately i had to come back and get ready for work tomorrow
I could ride the Island every day, well i guess if i was a bit fitter i could :D

Image

had pretty good weather the whole of last week just a couple showers last Monday but they cleared off and from then on it was fun fun fun

got some new bouncy bits for the ZX10
Image

although the shock is slightly longer than std, this plus using Pirelli slicks for the first time made for an interesting first few sessions, the pirellis just dont tip in as quick as the Bridgies and the rear being somewhere between a soft and medium had me sliding around a lot, wasnt until the second last session on the 4th day i was game enough to be hitting rev limiter in 4th just as i pass turn 12 marshall and was going to go for a all out last session but was thwarted by a 13,000 k old Kwaka punching a hole through its block and dumping its guts between Honda and Syberia

cant wait to get back there, its such a fast track and i Couldnt think of a better way to waste a birthday

looks awesome and glad you had some great weather.

What Perilli's were you running and what do you mean they were slippery?wheel spin or no confidence mid corner?

P.I. is an awesome place to scare yourself hey Birdman!!!! Judging by the veins in your neck sticking out on that last pic, I'd say you were having a crack at the time!!!!

They were brought in for Allerton but not used , Pirelli Superbike, the front is a medium compound which is sticky enough, 4 days and hardly worn but just doesnt tip in or give as much feed back as a Bridgestone.

The rear is somewhere between a soft and a medium, the tire was sticky enough but ripped to pieces real quick if you get on the throttle quick and had a constant squirm which the Bridgestone only gets when its on its last legs so didnt inspire confidence and lucky i took 2 cause i used both right down to the canvas

was told i had quite a large slide between 11 and 12 on the 3rd day but didnt even notice it, must have been getting used to the loose rear end by then

that might have been my 1:22       its true i did have it on the lap timer but it didnt save it :( would have been good to have even if it was a mis-timed lap

scared myself a couple time at that, once i took the easy way out at Honda and shot up the pit entry

hovered around the 1:52 - 1:53 i will be interested to get the suspension tuned in for me and a set of Bridgestones for next year and see what times i do

Nice one.!!!

Are those the slicks from Whites, (if so I think they are Russel Hollands "special" compound, from last year)..
I was gunna grab some but might not now...
I'm gunna give the Dunlop 209s a run... (although it won't be much of run..  )

yeah got them off Whitey mate, i reckon they would be perfect for a 600 but not the 10, especially if its a hot day

have the same on mine and had 2 majar moments at op coming out 2. couldnt touch the throttle whilst I had any lean however i was hoping the had just gone off or that OP was just really slippery.

have 2 more sets to kill before i go shopping though. lets hope they stick enough for my slow arse!!!

have fun guys, be safe and tear it up, oh and watch out for rabbits over Lukey, seagulls on the straight and bush Turkey's between Honda and Siberia, also seems to be a family of Magpies near Honda too

man with all that wild life i think you guys should just stay home and ride Natio, probably safer

What hot pressure was in it??? the reason I ask is that P.I. Generates and incredible amount of heat and thus large pressure increases. Thus, mostly you need to start from a lower base to compensate. A tearing up tyre can be from lots of things. Not enough, or too much rebound or compression can cause it, as can too much sag or too high a pressure. Mostly when a tyre has torn up on me down there, it has been either a pressure or a rebound issue!

As for the slide between 11 and 12!! That a little Gobert esque of you Birdman!!!! Do you remember him cracking it sideways on the Muzzy kawasaki back when he was on fire and hadn't been drug tested yet!!!! I wonder if he got off the bag snatching charge?????

no more than 30 psi hot

the pirellis like less pressure than the Bridgestones, i was just glad we had cool track temps, wouldnt like to use this tire on a hot day
in saying that i would like to try the hard compound
