Passed on from the Motorcycle Councill of NSW.
The RTA is considering changes to the licensing scheme for drivers under 26,
some of these changes could affect riders.

Further information can be found at http://www.youngdrivers.com.au

The options aren't numbered but they are divided into category 1, 2 and 3.
Calling the first option in category 1, 1.1 and the second one 1.2 etc the
RTA have advised that options 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.3 and 3.1 could potentially
effect motorcycle riders.

That is:-
1.2 Increase the minimum tenure period for Learners from 6 months to 12
months (however the minimum tenure for rider L's is currently 3 months)
1.3 Increase the Provisional age to 18 years
1.4 Increase the role for secondary schools in driver training
2.3 Modify the demerit point structue
3.1 Introduce night driving restrictions between 10pm and 5am

If you would like to comment you can do so at the above website or by
sending them to the Motorcycle Council of NSW

Increase L's to 12 months- seem nice in priciple, but its not like a car, once you are riding, your on your own anyway. No matter whether on L's P's or full licence.

Increased emphasis in driver trainning classes at schools is great.

Minimum age up to 18 years fine by me.

Dusk till dawn restrictions? How is this any bigger issue than for kids in cars?

Maybe better blood alchohol laws and even a third level of licencing that neds to be obtained before we get let loose on the new bread of 900,s and thous? They are after all as quick as GP bikes only 15-20 ago.
I may be wrong, but judgeing by the number of wrecked thou's andothers being sold as the owners say "too much bike for me" suggest that this becoming a major safety issue.

Just my two cents.

except this is nsw so you'd be on a LAMS bike not necessarily a 250
