Lost my key...

Ever since the track day i have been going mad looking all over the house for my bike key. I had taken it off from the rest of my keys, so now i have the rest of my keys but no bike key.

I remember taking it home, as i have to stop on the way to secure the bike so i put the key in to unlock the bars. Anyways ive given up and declared it lost...
What can i do? buy a new ignition barrel and seat locks with a key or can i get a locksmith to make me the same key again? i dont know if these are the same as car keys, but i dont think it had a unique code to make a copy from...

Maybe sell it without the key to fund my 6 :D

anyways, open to suggestions

If you call Kawasaki and quote the VIN or ESN they can give you the key number. With the privacy laws these days they may be reluctant to give the info out over the phone. If so go to a Kawasaki dealer that you have a relationship with and get them to call Kawasaki. Ask for the TSD dept.
If you can get the key number and if it is an old style key any locksmith can duplicate it. If it is a newer style that has some sort of security on it then I don't know. The key number should also be recorded in the WMC book.
Good luck.
Also when you go through the process of getting a new key the old one will turn up the day after. Murphy's law will get you.

I recently acquired a "new" ignition for my ZXR250 to fix a problem with the key not switching the bike off. Unfortunately the ignition did not have a key to go with it. I took it to my local locksmith, and they pulled the barrel apart to make a new set of keys. It cost me $25 for 2 keys and their time. The biggest problem with this way, is you will have to drill out the anti tamper screws on the ignition to remove it. I replaced mine with a couple of stainless allen key screws, so if you're not too worried about having an "unsecure" ignition, this is a cheap, albeit mechanically painful, way of getting your key replaced. The worst thing was, it didn't fix my electrical problem :x

thanks for all the offers of assistance guys. Ive kept searching and nothing has turned up :(
I called Aitkens today and they are getting me a blank key in. They told me to take off the triple clamps and take that to a locksmith to get a new key cut to the barrel.
Apparently there is no number they can give me which will tell the locksmith what to cut...

So end of the week they should have my key in, lets hope they can do something without needing to remove the tamper proof bolts on the ignition switch.

Dave, thanks for offering the keys, thought id just buy a new one rather than waste anyones time :)

Let us know how much this costs, I've always been interested to know what is involved & how much it costs to get a key cut where you have nothing to work from.

I lost my key at the beach far, far from home. With no other option I called an emergency locksmith. It took him 15 minutes to make 2 new keys - one for ignition and one for fuel tank as he couldn't get a single key to do both.

They use a "soft key" that marks when inserted into into the barrell then "cut" using a variety of files.

Cost $120.

Additional keys available at $25.00 if required.
