Maybe an airlock in the fuel system? put it on reserve and open the tank cap and try it? you must have a good battery in it I'll say that for it!

A good tip

if you want to get the fuel to the carbs faster after running them dry, put the bike in gear clutch out and side stand down then hit the starter button. This will stop the engine from turning over, sidestand safety cut out system, but allow the fuel pump to work, so getting the fuel into the carbs faster and with out draining the battery needlessly turning the engine over.

My fuel pump won't do that. It doesn't start unless the engine has cranked.

I "thought" turning your ignition on actually started the fuel pump up? For me, my ZZR would crank forever no drama, just had to screw the throttle occassionally to get some juice back into it after running out on main.

Not on these Mick. Just like the headlight on the early ones - only comes on after the engine has turned over.

I leave mine on RES permanently because I've got a fuel gauge on mine ;)

I hate having to switch over while I'm riding. I just have to remember to switch it back to RES after getting it serviced because the mechanics ALWAYS switch it back to ON for me.... and then I think I've run out fuel when I've still got about 5L left

I had similar probs today, tried to start my bike for the first time in 10 months.

Make sure the battery has is fully charged, as if it is just on or under 12volts, you'll have probs.

Check the fuses with a test light, or replace them with new ones.

If it is quite where the bike is kept, try to listen for the start relay clicking when you hit the starter, If not, maybe your start button has "just died" out of the blue.
If you can here the click, the next step would be checking the Fuel pump. (this is what died on me today). Check that the fuel pump is getting power with a test light. (mine started to work when i earthed the power wire with the test light, so checked my connections, but alas a dead fuel pump).
If the pump runs when you crank it, make sure its actually pumping fuel out, maybe the tap has crapped out and you aren't getting fuel to the pump.

If none of these work, Maybe time to get a workshop manual and test light and start scratching your head.

Hope this helps
