It`s finally about to happen, :D .I`m going to P I this year . Me and the frog are going to the GP, this is the 1st Real  ride the ZX10 and I have been on in our time together. Has anyone done the trip a number times and ways, got any advice on which is the best way without the hassels   if you know what I mean, not much in the way of points to play with at this point in time. Would like to go straight through if the body and mind are feeling up to it   . It`s a solo ride for now so if need to stop will. any groups leaving or advice on way down would be of help.

cheers to all ;) ;)

Having done the trip in one hit back from the supers it's about 13 to 14 hours solid. You will need to work out what gear you are carrying or better still if you know some one with a car they maybe able to take it for you. The better option would be to hook up with the Road Captain aka Phil. The one thing with doing it sole is if something goes wrong you are out there on your lonesome. You are probably younger and fitter than me but I think my ZRX is more attuned for this type of trip in one hit than the 10 so you should consider breaking the trip up after all you want to be fit for all the shennanigans down there than looking for chiropractors. Having said that everybody should at least once do a long one dayer just to to test yourself. Good luck and enjoy the trip be VERY AWARE OF THE NAZIS masquerading as Victorian police they allow no leniency whatsoever and are lurking like sharks for bike riders at this time of year. You haven't mentioned which way you are going my suggestion for a sole is Sydney Canberra Cooma Cann River Orbost Bairnsdale Sale Leongatha PI. The Hume is boring and you have to basically get into and out of Melbourne not a good thing at the best of times but particularly after you have spent such a long time in the saddle.

If you're gonna do it it in one hit you probably need to go the boring way, which is shit. I had to come back in a hurry from the supers last year so I did the Hume Boreway. It was as boring as hell, stupidly policed and my arse was flat by the time I got home. Took about 12 hours door to door.

If you break it up into two days like we do with Road Captain Phil, you get to do all the good twisty bits, you'll have a ball and the 10 will be fine comfort wise. My only concession to poofiness is a sheepskin on the seat. Don't know whether it does much but it was alright.

You should try and do the trip with someone else if you can though, you'll enjoy it a heap more. Check out the "Who's ridin to the island thread" on here.

...and make sure you get to turn1, that's where all the cool people hang out.......and me. :)

Yeh I've done GP a few times: all of which have been in one stint. :o

I've gone via the Hume - and as others have stated, yes it's painful, painfully boring that is.

I've also gone the Sydney Canberra Cooma Cann River Orbost Bairnsdale Sale Leongatha PI route which I enjoyed and yes it's a long stint, as Rooster said I think it also took me bout 14hrs . . . . but I would much prefer that, even with the bit of extra time, than going via the Hume. It really sux. Oh and yeh it is very heavily policed - I got booked on my way to GP last year. :x :x

And I've also ridden the secret squirrel roads with Road Captain aka Phil to supers and after doing so . . . . reckon it's the only way to go !! :D :D :D :D

As Glen suggested, check out the 'Who's riding to the MotoGP' thread for info. 8) 8) ;) ;)

Thank to all who gave some input! I was leaning towards the Canberra, Cooma, Cann river way as I have travelled most of the roads this way except between Cooma and Cann River. As for gear i have learnt over the years to pack, then unpack, then throw out what you don`t really need and pack again "travel light in other words". Have travel to Qld before, so time in the saddle is OK, just never gone that way sth.
Due to work I can only leave on the 2nd and as I said If mind and body are both up to it at the same time, I will go straight through. Would like to get set up early on before the masses.

Sheep skin seat cover on the 10, hmmmm! sound good for my boney ass. Might make it a little eazier? :P :P
Squirrels eh! I thought we only had possums.

Is there camping for tent and bike only inside the track?
Is there a another entance to this area?
Turn 1 be there with green on.

cheers to all, and will try to do some ride days in the near further with you sydney crew. :D :D

I used a sheepskin and a gel pad for the Supers this year and it was the most comfortable my gluttious maximus has been for ages on long trips, may I also suggest you get a water bladder has this helps extremely on rides like this keeps you hydrated and refreshed and you dont notice it on your back apart from being wry wary of the extra police presence enjoy the trip.

Mate, go to Gundagai, Tumut, Tumbarumba, Jingelic, Granya, Mt Beauty, Omeo, Bairnsdale, Yarram. If the weather is good you won't be disappointed!

The aboce route is worth it for Granya alone withut including the rest of it, having said that it's no 5 minute ride either will take a shitload longer then the Hume..

thanks PeteZX12 been looking at the Vic map on that route looks like the one that will take me home over a couple of day`s
on the return trip. Anywhere between Tumbarumba and Mt Beauty good for a overnight camp? . chears. ;)

Still can`t get the idear of a bit comfort in the rear end department though  had a look at mcas at sheep skin seat covers the other day don`t know, will look around and see what else there is. Try to find 1/2 a sheep skin some where and make my own.
