2004 zx10 tyres and pressures

ok so heres a question for all the zx 10 owners.
what sort of tyres do you prefer when riding in the twisties and what sort of pressure do you run in them in winter/summer.
everyone loves a certain brand , whats yours??
im running a metzler m3 on the back and m1 on the front. pressure is about 36 - 42. went through and did a few laps of the black spur but the bike dosent feel as planted as my 600 used to with pilot powers on. could it be the winter?? i lowered the pressures for a bit but it just made the bike turn in slower.
might try a set of diablo rossos after this set and see how that goes..
Cheers!

Ok its not a zx10 but i ran about 5 sets of m3s front and rear on my zx9 and never had any problems in the spur blk or reefton.this time of the year when its cold of course with the road temp being way lower it will feel differant.

I finding the new bt016's quite good t around 38 but they do take a while to warm up

i always run about 38 in the rear, and about 34 int he front.
the m1 is probably letting you down, its a bit "Lo tech".
put powers on they rock!
i just ran a set of diablo corsa's, they didnt last long (like 3000kms) and they wheelspin like a mofo!

I am another fan of Pilot Powers. I have them on the 10 and find them grippy for both road and track. They seem to have a decent enough durability too. Actually, PP's on the 6R were awesome too, prolly the main reason why I put them on the 10 and never really looked at any other options after that
Road 36 fronnt and 41 rear
Track drops em down to 32F and 33R depending what the days like.
I hope to be throwing on a set of 003s from Whitey come mid next month. We'll see how they are on the 10 at EC and PI. Wouldnt mind trying the 002s as these come highyl recommended as well.

I used to run pilot power 34 front and rear when I was having fun with the bike on the road and ran 30 30 on the track. (track a nice 25 degree's). You gotta change the pressure depending on the weather. Hotter = lower pressure. Cooler = higher.
The first set of power I had were nice and sticky but the second set seemed to be really ordinary. Actually slid out on the second set riding very slowly (60kms/hr) so I cant understand it.
On my R1 now, I've gotten 15000 kms out of the powers with 4 track days running sub 1'49" times (I dont care too much for the main straight at EC, we all know they can go fast in a straight line). I run similar pressures as I did on the ZX10.

im warming up to the m3s now. need to get an m3 front and ill be 100 percent certain.
btw . the weather question is what ive though about a fair bit but havent got anywhere.
why does hotter weather - lower presseure and vice versa?
i would have though if its a 16 degree day youd let some air out of the tyres so there isnt as much air to heat up??
cheers!

Ideally, you want you tyres to expand to a certain point (pressure). On a hot day if you were running 36psi, your tyres may reach upto 39psi (if not more) because of the heat. At this pressure, the tyre will loose a lot of its grip being too rigid. The idea then is to lower the pressure to make up the difference.
The opposite works in colder weather. At 16 degrees, you cant generate enough heat to expand the tyre. Having less air in there and trying to heat that up will not let the tyre reach an optimal level. Hence you increase the pressure itself to offset the need to heat the tyres to the higher temp.
Hope that makes sense?!

air gets bigger when its hotter... so with a possible 15 degree difference in air temperature there will be some static pressure difference in tyre pressure... hence if its hot and the air is already bigger, then u dont want it getting even bigger so u let more pressure out than u otherwise would for a really gold day, where air temp might be 15 or below

Dude where the fuck did u get your info from??
In colder temps you want lower tyre pressure as what heats up a tyre is movement in the wall of tire hence a lower pressure gives more movement and flex and allows a tyre to warm up quicker and to correct operating temp.
On hotter days vis versa, add more pressure but no more than recommended as you want less flex and the tyre will heat up just the same due to road temp and air temp and some flex in the tyre.
Please do some research before you go feeding people asking for the correct info a BS theory.

i know a tyre with less air in it has a bigger contact patch, and one with more air in it has a smaller contact patch.
i'd be wanting a consistant contact patch, rather than frying the F@#k out of a tyre thats over heated.
