Motul 5100 is soo black

I've just had the beast serviced at the local 'dealer' who uses Motul 5100 10w50 (which is the first time I've used this oil) and as soon as I picked it up the oil was as black as.
It was after hours, so no techie to ask about it.
Now I don't know much about oil, but I would have expected it to be not as black as that, or perhaps a golden colour.
Have they forgotten to change it or is this the normal colour for this oil ?

thanks all

sounds like they have missed it.... does your bike have a dipstick on the oil filler cap? & is that were you are getting the sample oil from? the 5100 is golden in colour but unless your engine has been flushed it will mix with the original oil & darken.

As Rob said, its a golden colour and will darken if oil filter wasn't changed, but it is NOT black.
Sound like they didn't do the oil change.

Thanks for the responses. The previous oil was a very dark colour, but more dark brown not black. This one was pitch from the start.
How could it take up that much colour in such a short time ?
The filter was changed for a new one at the same time.
Closer inspection also reveals that the oil level is fuller than it was previously (that is it's over full), but i'm not sure what that tells me.
No dipstick, so I'm getting the colour thru the site glass which is very clear, so should be no distortion
hmmmm

Dark browny coloured oil means you left it in the poor girl far too long!! Will have a destinct zorsty kinda smell about it when you drain it.
Black oil means either 1 it's been cooked shitless or 2 somebody swapped your big $$$$$ 5100 for the old shit in the diesel work ute :frown:
Regardless, I'd get it changed real quick plus another new filter.[hint-always change oil hot] ;)

I dunno - that's just how it looks to me on my bike. It certainly don't look as clean and nice as the oil in yours!!! :D Maybe I've got a tinted sight glass or something?? I remember once just before the oil got changed thinking "Geeee that's real black and nasty looking" and once it was in the drain pan Gos saying "geeeeeee that's really good!" about the freshly dumped oil, which was still quite goldeny. Then it looking just as black and nasty through the window once the new oil was in.

It can be deceiving... just stick some on your hand or a bit of paper to see how clear it is... if its black it is pretty much had its day, here is a hint
use a torch & you should be able to get a reflection from the back of the sight glass to show the clarity ;)
