Hi,

I have just got my full licence and am really sick of riding the missus's EL250 so it is time to get a "first" big bike and I am after some recommendations. I am looking around at Zx7's and early Zx6's maybey even a nice ZXR750, would these be a smart idea for a first big bike and is around 50000ks too much for one of these engines.

Regards

I wouldn't worry about kilometers if you can get your hands on a well serviced one. Phil's 9 is a perfect example. All of the bikes you've mentioned are fantastic, I'd just sit on a few, and see which are more comfy!

I'm a massive fan of the ZX7 though! :D

Hi ,

Thanks for your replys, I prefer the fully faired sports bike and I will be not commuting just riding for fun and maybey a few track days in the future (although I wouldn't know where to start).

Although ZXR750's have some appeal, as do the ZX7R's, I would look down the ZX6R route. It's just a better bike for what you intend doing and no slower than the ZXR or the 7R! Plus, if you are intending doing track days, the 6 would be an absolute weapon at Barbagello, with it's lighter weight and sharper steering!!!! :D

Here here

98/99 ZX6 are a weapon of a bike . Look like a 9 or even a 12 at a glance .

Only prob I'm aware of is the usual oil burning when they get a bit long in the tooth but you get that with any bike.
2nd gear can tend to jump out under power after a while 60+K. A new shifter assy normally sorts this out though (ebay)

FYI A mate of mine has one and hangs off my ass like a bloody dag when we find a few nice twisties. If I let him get in front I have to work pretty hard to keep on him under brakes and mid corner(not always successful)...Though powering out on the 10 is always very rewarding (no substitute for HorsepowerLOL)

The Collie track days go alright too apparantly .. You get to wear out BOTH sides of your tyres!!!

IMO 8)
