Hi Gang,
I'm about to purchase an Elite Camper trailer to reduce accommodation costs while touring (mostly in the UK & Europe & USA) and I'd like some advice on what to buy (or what not to buy) and how to fit a towbar.
TIA.
Kind regards
Dave Milligan

This will be interesting Dave! I'm not sure there are any in here old enough....... or more likely..... brave enough...to own up to having any real experience with towing a trailer behind a bike!

My Farther had a CB900 with a trailer on it. Can't really give you any advice on what to get, other than get it shop fitted. Then you wont have a problem. Dad didn't have any trouble towing his trailer. Said its just a bit heavier to pull up.
I will ask him what brand of hook up and trailer it was and get back to you.

I resemble that comment! I'm not even 40 yet, either! I tow a classic mid size trailer behind my GT550. I have a classic towbar on it and it is OK. I recently had a look at a Shadow brand (from Adelaide) towbar on a FJR1300 and it was a work of art.

I also resemble that remark. I'm towing a 360cu/l trailer behind an '01 ZX-12R. Give classic a ring.

Mate have been there many times before
you want to speak to Greg at Greg Ball engineering at Kirawee (Sydney), he has done two for me in the past with no hassles.
& one experience I had was with a GSX1100GKE full tourer with 2X3 box trailer hauling down a dirt road on route to the wee jasper rally & a horse jumped out in front of me.... GEZUS! that taught me a big lesson about braking with a trailer... allow twice the distance

luckily the horse just kept trotting down the road but the overtaking move was scary as all shit, trying to guess whis side of the dirt road he wanted
Just a little note, you will get sick of people asking you about the trailer & how it tow's & arent you scared & what if and so on.... it is relentless & just riding through a town every single person will stare at you
The most important thing to do is check out your insurance that it will cover you towing & if they will cover the trailer

In regards to the actual trailer - have you bought one yet ? If not, it may pay to check with the Qld Z Owners Club - a couple of blokes there who do *shitloads* of touring with Z1300's and obligatory trailer.........have developed a trailer with only 1 wheel..........
It works really well according to them. Shaped a bit like a cigar ie. long and skinny, it leans with the bike instead of being planted on 2 wheels ( and this will create its own issues with the steering on your bike). They look trick as fuck, black, lockable, capacity of 5 or 6 hundred litres ?? It could well be more.
I'll see if I can dig out a photo and post it up. They are a really good trailer according to the guys that use them.
