Just for info folks
I've had my bike with Shannons from new. Just got my latest renewal at $776 or $65/month (They do a straight divide by 12, don't really know why given the cost of funds but I'm not complaining. No doubt I'm paying for it in the premium). I haven't checked insurance costs for a few years so i thought I'd get another quote just to check ( usually do this with all my insurances every few years)
QBE have been advertising lately about their super competitive quotes and that they will beat anyone etc so i thought I'd get one from them. They're advertising even says "Our prices are generally lower than the competition....."
Quote came back at $908 so dearer anyway, but the absolute clincher was the monthly option ... $90.80/mth plus a $25 start up fee ie $1,114.60 for the year.
Looks like I'm staying with Shannons.

That's why I moved from WQBE to Shannons last year

For the past 2yrs I've received a renewal from WQBE and have obtained quotes from Shannons to compare. In both cases Shannons have come in bout $200-300pa less.
As I have made a claim with WQBE previously and was happy with the outcome and dealing with them.... So, tbh I don't really want to change - cause I know they pay
On both occasions I have rung them and sent a copy of the more competitive quote, and they have matched the premium. I'm happy with that.

I found that QBE was cheaper than Shannons esp when I told them that I would bring over my car insurence with them as it was cheaper even when I went pay by the month, even though there was the start up costs etc it was still cheaper than shannons.

Out of interest I did some shopping around for the 12R.
29yo rider, lockup garage in Brisbane, fairly good history & rating 1.
Insure My Ride $1050 - no km limit
Shannons $1150 - recreational use 2 days per week only/no commuting
WQBE $1281 - don't remember re: limitations, pretty sure it was unlimited kms
NRMA $3280
AAMI - don't do any sportsbikes <1000cc or bigger
RACQ - don't do 12Rs
For anyone concerned about Insure My Ride they are effectively a part of Shannons, but just a different brand name... having worked at Shannons until recently I can even tell you they use the same assessors!!

For my ex's 89 CBR1000 you couldn't beat Arista for price - that's if you over 30/35 (cant remember) and dependant on the make and model of bike you want to insure. I have no idea bout making a claim with them - just posting this as a note to the older riders with more sedate bikes

(that sounds wrong, but you know wot i mean

)

Just be aware that if you choose it the monthly payment option is ridiculously expensive. ie a 23% premium which if you were to work out an effective interest rate on the outstanding balance will be something like 40 - 50%

Have you tried Insure My Ride?
I used to be with Shannons & before that WQBE & Swan.
Not only were IMR cheaper, they arranged for my bike to be repared really quickly so I could ride to the World Supers after a fuckwit Barina driver reversed into it, barrelling it over.

I wasn't really looking to change I was just doing a sanity check to make sure Shannons were still close. They all vary depending on your age and riding habits. Shannons seem to be good with.... ahem ..."more mature" riders who only ride on weekends.
