Educate them. Why do we ride?

Hey all. I'm currently doing my diped so that I can start teaching. In a couple of days I have to give a lesson on a hobbie. Obviously it wasn't a hard decision. Point being, that part of the lesson will be devoted to appreciating the leisure ride; understanding bikers and why we take on the road. So I want you all to comment:

Why do you ride? What is it about taking on the twisties that makes you so eager each and everytime?

Because im out there, i feel close to my bike (some would say "as one with the bike") out on the road more than i ever could coddled up in my plush car. Every little body movement affects something in the bikes dynamic. The air smells crisper, my mind is clear, and i feel fantastic..

That's about the best way i can describe it.

When I hit twisties my attention is fully focused on the task. I forget about everything else. This is the best and the worst thing, because I find it hard to slow down. In the interests of my bones and my licence staying in one piece I don't do twisties often. More fun on the track.

In some ways I think if you have to ask you'll never understand, but if I was to try to explain it I'd say "I feel that riding a motorcycle along a twisty mountain road is a heady blend of relaxation and concentration; I can forget all my troubles, yet find answers to problems, it's peaceful and quiet, yet there's an intoxicating roar from the machine, and I can focus on the road, yet ride by instinct". There's also the rush, of course, though I prefer to find that on the track.

When you take a corner in a car, the G forces push you in the opposite direction you are trying to go and you are constantly fighting the effects by leaning inwards to try and remain upright.
When you corner an a motorcycle, you lean into the corner and the forces are distributed through the natural line of your body exactly the same way as when an aircraft banks left or right. Motorcycling is as close to flying as you can get get without leaving the ground, and who doesn't want to fly?
