I have made the decision to buy a new or demo bike when I return in february. I am going to trade in the 9 and the failing marhsmallow and buy.......................... a ...............................fucked if I know!

the short list but includes ZX14 and GTR14! But hey, if the Kawasaki dealers act like twats, it may be an ST or an FJR for all I care! But preferably a Kawasaki will grace the garage floor come february some time.

The GTR is either black or silver and it would be whatever I could get a deal on as I don't give a toss which colour as neither really appeals to me. But, if I went ZX14 It would make the colour choice difficult. Black is nice but oh so hard to keep clean and shows marks easily. The black/red flame job is fucking hideous at best so it's out no matter how feckin cheap they make it. That leaves Blue, red or Silver! Red is an old colour so I might be lucky to find one new or even demo, maybe a low k one??? Blue is only for girls bikes, So that really leaves that lovely new Silver colour! :D

I might go an test ride one before I fly to Singapore in the new year! 8)

Yep Finally bought one!!!

If I we're doing the travelling you do, but still wanted to scratch, I'd be searching to see if any dealers have a really nice 12

I know Mick well enough from my racing days. We were both in the same club and had the occasional derby against each other! I was at the mmeting when Mick broke his handebar coming through GIO!!!! (the fast left heading into Honda!!!)

If you want to talk to an absolute peanut butter nutter regarding the 14, go here: http://sportbikerider.17.forumer.com/index.php join up and introduce yourself to Barbender. He's had 'Big Red' for some time now and knows her well.

Blue is for girls you reckon hey ?? Says he who rides a marshmellow.. :P

The new colors are average Marty, silver is the only pick of the bunch, and thats boring as.
Remember the 08 has the intake and head mods to eliminate the down low power issue, other than that nothing else different.
I have mine booked for after christmas to have the secondry flies removed and remapped, will be interesting to see the difference it makes.

If i were you and doing the amount of ridng and touring, i would go the GTR1400.. They may look awkward, but i have ridden one and i was bloody wrapped with it.. Will be a bike to consider if i was going to looking to upgrade.

I can imagine whatever I buy will end up with loads of kilometres on it, so simplicity is the key. Modern stuff has enough electronic gadgetry on it these days without complicating things with new technology. The GTR has a few new to Kawasaki things which to me are unkown and therefore worth keeping away from until they are proved bullet proof like most of Kawaski's stuff. If it was just a weekend bike, it could be powered by Hydrogen for all I care, but as a bike on which I intend to have to rely on getting me places in a certain time frame for work, then it is critical to have it as reliable as possible. The new Shaft set up (tetra wank whatever it is) is new to Kawasaki, untried in relative terms and could very well, as has the BMW System, have potential failures. They may not, but it's possible. So is that new Kpass ignition FOB thing, which a few guys on US forums have been stranded with. The third being Variable cam timing. Although the technology is not new, it's new to Kawasaki, so once again until a few years have passed i might stay away. Chains and sprockets are not that big a deal to me any more after my recently fantastic experiences with the reliability of BMW shaft systems  Plus, as it will be my ONLY road bike, I prolly need it to be a little lighter and more agile than the GTR and despite what JW may think, I still reckon a GTR just can't out handle a ZX14! Looking at them both in the flesh, the ZX looks to have it's guts a little higher than the GTR does. Even so, I think it will need a little tender love and care setting up the suspension to get it to turn how I like em! :)

As for colour, I am not all that fussed. As I said, I will look at LOW klm, Demo or new. Each of which has a choice of colours. Black is really great to look at when clean, but it only has to cloud over for black to look dirty and I'd rather spend my time riding it not washing it as in your good self! ;) I don't mind the silver in the pics, but not sure how it would look in the flesh. Although, there is a red one with 6K 2nd hand for sale which is advertised at $12,990!!!!!! Cheap. I could forego 6,000Klms for $6,000!!!!!
There is also a demo advertised for 16k somewhere. I naturally will speak to some of our sponsors prior to placing an order anywhere I would think.

I also just want to leave it standard apart from getting it's arse of the ground. No pipes, but I may put a commander on it to remove the handbrake in the first four gears.

Its a real piss off that the 9 has been discontinued. Personally I don't see anything in KHI's range that could replace mine. There are many choices, as your subject line denotes, but is there a bike out there from any of the marques available off the showroom floor that can do what a 9 does? In my opinion, no.
It really does seem that it is what you are after and yet you are relinquishing it in search of something newer yet the same. Sporty yet tourable. Maintenance and user friendly. Ride it to work, charge through the twisties, head off interstate, bugger off down to the bottle shop, or act like a monkey and wheelie or stoppie to your hearts content.
There are indeed many choices from all of the manufacturers filling all sorts of niche's, but none of them including Kawasaki can replicate the 9.

So now that I have drifted a little and teared up, that is my requiem for the beloved ZX9-R.
Gotta love em

I share your thoughts. The 9 is good. But it's not the be all and end all of muddaboiks! It's good, but not brilliant! I may just trade the felching marshmallow and keep the 9. I am not needing to sell it to assist funding the new one, so I might just hang onto it?? Not sure yet though. It's in need of a few bucks spent, and I am not sure that I will have a lot of use for it once I have the new one. After all, if it works out as I plan, the 14 should be able to two up tour, tour, commute and scratch!!! Fingees crossed hey!
