Wikipedia describes a streetfighter like this...

"A streetfighter is a superbike that is customized by removing the fairing, and making other changes that result in an overall more aggressive look. Made popular by European riders, this type of custom motorcycle is gaining popularity all over the world."

REAL Z1000 but real streetfighter?

So, with that said.... the Z1000 completely uncustomized already looks like a streetfighter....... but it hasnt been modified, and it was never a superbike..... so is it a streetfighter.... Should people be allowed to refer to their zed as a streetfighter?

Personally, i wouldn't spend money on "building" a street fighter... I'd just buy the z1000.

to me, streetfighters are just naked sportsbikes.

Can of worms that one! I would think that a real street fighter as opposed to a NKD bike, needs to be built not bought off the shelf & the look is one that is not obtainable without modification :D

l think the best way to find out is to get a streetfightered ZX9R, ride both and see if they are any different. My guess would be that the 9 would be more aggressive, so the Z wouldn't really be a streetfigher.

REAL streetfighter

this "real fighter" looks like the owner flipped it chucking a mono to impress his mates, then decided it was cooler to have it unfaired.

fighters are kinda cool, but the swept up ass look, it f@#ked

One of the prime requisites of a "real" streetfighter is to have the performance modded as much, if not more than the bodywork - it should also be one of a kind (be it body work & or paint work).

Braced swing arms, rearsets, shock & forks, even frames replicated in a more artistic/braced manner are common. Harris make a number of frames to fit many sports bike, allowing you to chose a chassis set-up you like but with more asthetic looks, and build from there. High lift cams, bucket vavles, big bore kits, lighter/balanced cranks - everything has to be modded. And a plethora of oil lines with anodised connectors are very popular too.

I was going to make a fighter out of my 87 cbr when I wrote it off - lack of money/time made me sell it. If I knew then what I know now I would have built a trackie out of it. I only lived a few miles from Brands Hatch then too. AND anyone who doesn't know Brands Hatch should seriously question their commitment to motorcycling!

i argue this with Greeny and a bunch of others....

zed is a NAKED... it was designed naked, and its stock/common

a fighter has to havbe more than a few "bolt on bits"..ussually a bunch of stuff missing (fairings) and a bunch of fabricated stuff, and as mike says, original...

i got in trouble for claiming my zed was a fighter....

i have a few bikes and i have streetfightered all of em... i also have a z100 and i got that for a few reasons...

1 - it looks like a street fighter
2 - i work for a kawasaki dealership

i think if someone wants to call their bike a streetfighter then let them.. heck even if someone had a cruiser and wanted to call it a streetfighter then so be it.. who cares really ???

Neka,

If [in January :) ] i put a Belly Pan on my Z750 it is no longer Naked, right? Then when i put the tidy tail, hugger and windscreen on it wouldn't that make it a fighter? If not do the new tyres (pilot road 2c's) since they are not reccomended by the manufacturer become a performance enhancement?

I really need this cleared up before i spend a fortune on bits....

Calling a Z1000 a streetfighter is like calling a stock Harley a custom chopper. It's not, you're just being lame. The name doesn't refer only to the end result, it's the process of getting there.
