Why can't my 9 jump up in the AIR???

Well,
i am trying to work something out, cause i just bought my 9 so haven't had many experinces with them. Now when i had the 6 it used to do power wheelies pretty easily so i would assume the 9 can do it. But for some reason i sit back on the seat on the 9 i go as hard onto the throttle as possible in 1st and 2nd trying to get the front to lift and it doesn't do it.... or it does but the front wheel will just float off the ground. now i don't know if it should or not, but another reason why i wonder this is because my mate has EXACTLY the same bike, same mods stock sprocket setup and he says if he does the same he will flip his.... Now i have tried also going part throttle backing off then breaking throttle on. Tried rocking it up.
I know it will clutch up.. But yeah just interested..
Now things i am interested in knowing is, a good mechanic mate of mine who works on kawasaki's all day and he gave the motor a good clean up carbs and all and said the motor was in good nick, so makes me think can't be the motor,
But the susp needs to be fixed up and is very soft atm, do u think that could be part reason why ? i mean its most likely me, but my mate with his 9 reckon he doesn';t have to try and he is basically lying over the tank and it still goes up.... where as i am putting in effort for it to come up
thanks guys!
