Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a trickle charger? something like the "battery tender" with a wiring harness to easily hook it up each time you park the bike.

Most Battery World's and Super Cheap Auto's have them. It's a fully automatic charger anf heaps better than the Projecta/Arlec versions out there.

I ended up getting the jnr battery fighter from super cheap for only $49. Now I have to make sure the battery has water in it, and that the charger is hooked up correctly. The intructions go on about whether the battery is positively grounded or negatively grounded. How the hell woul I tell, and does it really make a difference? otherwise i'll just hook it up to both battery posts.

a test for a Brit
was it the Ariel, BSA, Triumph, AJS, Norton, Royal (Enfield), Beardmore, Sunbeam, Vincent, Excelsior or Matchless bikes
(or none ) that had pos earth...???

and a bit of trivia.... David Brown built the first Aston MArtins (DB1- 4 cyl and DB2-6cyl ) with positive earth electricals
which meant strange gear from Lucas and SU (who made the electric fuel pumps)

You need to make sure you hook it up correctly, otherwise you will immediately fuck your brand new charger !!! Yes it makes a huge difference, reversing the polarity from a battery charger could be lethal if you have any petrol fumes in the area.

Your bike will be a negative earth. Attach the positve (red) charger lead to the battery +ve terminal, and the earth lead (black) to a solid point on the frame, either a footpeg mount, engine bolt, somwehere like that.

You could also take the battery right out of the bike and charge it, if you wanted to.

If you want to hook up a 'battery tender' type charger, you need to wire in a plug somewhere on the bike, so the battery tender can simply plug in and start charging. If you are not real sure about electrics, get this done by an auto-electrician.



ps - Yoda - I am sure that post-war Nortons had +ve earth, and maybe even the Matchies ?? what a crock of shit +ve earth was eh ??
