I noticed on the home page of mcnews.com.au it has an advert from Metzler for some tyre specials. I thought i'd just let everyone know, just in case some are in need of some good cheap tyres.

Z4's from $388 a set

M1's from $418 a set

And last but certainly not least....and I'm gunna get a set... Rennsports for $438 a set! :)

Apparently available at Metzler stockists!!!

M1's i've ridden on and are the tyre the M3 replaced. They are still a good road tyre. Photomike seemed to utilise them well at Broadford as well. The Rennsports I loved. I actually went looking for them and eventually gave up and bought Racetechs at the time. But they are just as good as the racetechs IMO, they just don't last quite as long. Having said that, I used afront on the 9 for 9000klms!! I eventually took it off not cause it no longer gripped, but because the carcass was starting to show through on the edges!!!!

Mate any sports bike with 100hp or more will tear a race tyre to shreds when you're a throttle jockey. The nine may be 20 hp down on the 10, but it's 10kg heavier! So it balances out and even a sluggish old 9 will chew tyres if you have to nail it to keep up! But if you are as smooth as Mick is they will last OK! 8) I managed 9k from a front and 5 or 6 from memory out of rears. They are a top tyre!

ok guys...

what the hell is a Rennsport? I was out of the riding game for at least 2yrs whilst over seas... come back to hear Metzler is the be all and end all of tyres.. I looked on the Metzlers website, they say nothing of Rennsports.

I was always a Pirelli man myself for my last bike.. I am told the Metzlers are as good as the Pirelli's.. is this true?

no - they are better..... :D

rennsports have been superceeded by the racetec, thats the one you'll find on the website. Marty recons the rennsport is/was just as good.

We used to get rennsports cheap when I was working for Rightstart so they were all I run on my 9. Used to get about 3 ridedays out of a back and that was it. They were a brilliant tyre though

From my experience with the Pirelli Diablo and the super Corsa is that they have about the same grip levels as M3's and Rennsports/Racetechs, but the Metzlers must have a slightly harder compound which delivers more miles. I also found the Diablo to develop a flat edge on the sides very quickly which caused loads of little slappers when on the gas. I also find the M3 to turn in a little better and change direction a little easier than the Pirelli Diablo and the Rennies and Racetechs are way sharper than the Super Corsa in this respect also. However, credit where credit is due, I find the Pirelli Diablo to provide a little better feel through the bars than the M3! Right on the limit, the M3's can be a little skatey. But I am talking corner speeds that you are most likely not to take road corners at, unless of course you are an ex or current A grader! And if you are, you could ride on Z6's and still hose all of us!!!!!!!

Has anyone tried to buy these tyres (specifically Rennsports) from a dealer? Do tyres have a shelf-life? I loved Rennsports and would grab some like a shot (any hints for a supplier in Sydney?) but would be concerned that they might be a bit past it.
Ta.
