Ever hit/contributed to Road Kill?

Just wondering if anyone has ever hit an animal (roos, cats, rabbits, birds etc.) with their bike? I'm sure it's not pleasant for the rider, bike or animal/target but what were the consequences?. I once hit a crow at 80Kmh. The bugger tried to dive under the bike but bounced off my steel-cap boot instead. XXeyeslam.gif What was he thinking...???
I know it sounds groce but what about riding over road kill. I've done that once and almost lost it.

Coming back across the Nullabour just outside ceduna, Roo jumped out in front got him big time with the side car. Bike DOD, me 2 months rehab :)
Touring Qld around 10ish at night got hit by a huge Bat right across my visor, broke my visor i crapped meself and yep next was the slip and slide, walked from that but the bar was DOD.
Been knocked of by an Emu just outside of Arkaroola on dirt, he ramed me for some unknow reason, road bike on dirt i never stood a chance.
Hit a dog and around 4 cats, have'nt lost it with them but a rodeo ride never the less and the latest two were last year, screaming around a corner, showing off my bro in law right behind me so i was scraping knees and pegs, and there was a lovely brown snake took him out with my knee, around 6 km up the road same issues scraping around a corner and sure enough theres gigantor the Wombat staring me down, we missed somehow but i thought on that one i was finished.

Thats also all over 20years of riding to :)

Hit 2 magpies so far, and nearly a cat.
First bird got cliped by my mirror and then hit my shoulder. Had armour on so it didnt hurt, but it nearly knocked me off the bike. :o
Second Bird just flew straight in front of my while I had Bluefly on the bike with me. It hit just above the headlight. Massive bang, but only evidence were the feathers in the ram air duct.
The Cat, I was being silly. hung a wheelie coming out of a roundabout in my street. Just as I was coming down, this cae bolted flat out from a front yard. It passed just under my line of sight sight. I swear it must of nearly run straight into the side of my rear wheel. But no evidence or carnage at all. Must have been a very near miss. Then I thought, shit! what if that was a kid chasing a ball.

Not a kill but I had just moved off when a parakeet burst out of a tree next to the road and hit me square in the chest. It pretty much bounced off and kept going. It let out one hell of a suprised squark though.
Not quite road kill either but last summer I was riding with my visor up and sunnies on when one of those big ass hornets that eats spiders hit my left eye. It then dissapeared, until the searing pain in my chest told me where it had gone. Don't know how but it had gotten in the top of my jacket and inside my shirt and was stinging the shit out of me. Imagine someone pulling over and stripping their jacket off as fast as they can and then having to stop, back up and get their gloves off first and thats the comedy routine I was putting on for the passers buy. The hornet became roadkill when I got it out and crushed it into a fine paste.

My post from another board :

"I hit a roo at 110kph..... 1 week after getting a new bike..

Killed the roo, only damage to my bike was a splatter of blood on the brakes and forks...woohoo

I have no idea how I managed to stay upright, but my mate who was riding behind me says my bike went airborne. Almost dropped it in my rush to stop on gravel at the side of the road.

Went back the next day to check the scene, and gave the roo a kick for good measure.

I think somebody was looking after me that night !"

havent hit anything on my bike yet but the other night was with my bro inlaw and saw the funniest thing.

This stupid plover right in the middle of the road was dancing about with its wings out to try and scare us as we must have been near his babies ( Nissan Patrol Ute with tip tray all up about 2+ tonnes ) and we rolled straight over it!!

Must take my hat off to him for his balls!!!

day after i got my zx6r i was riding down towards wisemans ferry when a duck flew out from the brush to the left side, it was low and slow and quickly collected by my front tyre. that's been my bike's only contribution.

I've come close to hitting things but never actually hit yet. It sounds harsh but if you're ever thinking you're going to hit an animal DON'T DODGE - often they balk at the last minute and there's no problem, but if you dodge chances are high you'll come off either because you're automatically focussing on the dumb animal, or the animal has changed direction and you've hit it with the bike at an angle/off balance. If you're going to hit, best hit it square on.
Also if you find yourself needing to run over roadkill, accelerate over it - don't brake. If you brake then there are chances your wheel will lock up due to the bump and then down you go when the front wheel lands.

Fully clobbered a possum one morning on my way to work. Was in winter, so it was a bit dark, and I was wearing a full tint visor. Saw him show up in the headlight beams but knew there'd be nothing I could do to avoid him. No point destabilising the bike for his sake, its all over for him.

So yeah, clobbered him right square in half at about 80 clicks.

In about 15 months of riding I've hit and killed a possum with my boot, had a near miss with a roo, and performed some sort of acrobatic miracle to avoid a lunging hissing pissed-off snake .... ahh, the old road, such a wonderful place to observe all of natures little creatures :D

As what TY says, don't dodge, the buggers can change direction sideways quicker than you can.

For all the wild-life out here the only thing I've hit was a fairy wren, and they are about half the size of a sparrow. The rest of the flock probably aged a few years when I filtered the straggler out of the group though

Touch-wood, I've missed everything else...although the last time I said this I nearly hit something furry the next day. I've close calls with kamakazi rabbits, hares, feral cats, and foxes and near-misses with suicidal rosellas and magpies. Some of the birds have been so close I've had to duck behind the screen (pun intended).

I've had a few manic episodes with kangaroos, both with them and I moving in convergent courses, and facing off with them whilst stationary. They're pretty stupid, you can tell from close-up there's not much upstairs :? I've also chased a few of them down my driveway, they just go in a straight line following the gravel and don't even indicate when joining the main road. I nearly cleaned up one of my neighbour's sheep two days in succession. Once in the morning when the animal decided it was lonely in the paddock and the best place to find a new purple two-wheeled friend and attendant rider was in the middle of the farking road. Nose-to-the-bitumen stoppie, and all was well. The next day (although I was half expecting it) ewe wouldn't believe it, she did it again. Stoopid sheep  . She did it once more trying to make friends with the local school bus and was smeared about 5 metres down the road. Darwin award (Animal Division) Winner!

The scariest one was the horse about 12-18 months ago. I was lucky that it broke cover while I was going slow enough to stop, as it was I reckon I grazed my nose on the road I stopped so quickly. You don't realise the things are so huge until you get close-up, and this was was pretty strung-out (OD'ed on lucerne I reckon). Ended up chasing him down the road and he finally decided the safest place was back in his own paddock, far away from the annoying little bastard with the noisy two-wheeled machine. Probably the only time a ZZR600 has ever been used for mustering livestock...

almost.....it was a Honda,,,but a VTR1000

I really have no idea how me or the bike came out undamaged !
I just remember coming round a bend and "it" was sitting in the middle of the road. I only had time to think OH SHIT !! After I open my eyes I'm still on the road and still upright. :D
