If you could have one bike from your past what would it be?
I got to thinking about which bike I have owned that I liked the most??? I liked each bike I owned for it's own individual reason or reasons. The bike I had the strongest attachment to was probably my GPX 750. Not really due to it's performance, more the things I did and places I went on it. It toured, scratched, commuted and did track days. I went away for weeks at a time on it as well as most Sundays with the Touring club (now Mel Sports Bike Riders Club). The only thing I would want now in hindsight, is 17" wheels, Modern brakes and decent suspension!!

Ummmmm, none of them
.
GPX250R (16 months), ZZR600 (4.5 years), Hornet (9 months).
Apart from the fact the first two are Kwakkas, the Hornet has it all over both of them...and my arse still hasn't forgiven the GPX.

my first bike a 1971 cb250. I had the engine melt a piston due to a carb leak
. If i hadnt have killed the engine i would have eventually redone it totally from the ground up and made it into a polished old turd
. One reason i guess i've got the gsx250 i guess.

Past?
I've still got mine, hence the z900/zx9. You can never have too many bikes

RD 350LC !
Traded my first bike, CB250n, for it. Loved it cause it was absolutely mental after coming from that. I remember the first ride down the side street near the shop. Took a few stabs at getting it off the line, since it had to be revved a bit harder than a four stroke before letting the clutch out. After stalling it thrice I finaly got moving off down the street in first, slowly bringing the revs up, then it hit 6000rpm
Power band! It fair dinkum took off wrenching my arms out of they're sockets! Just awesome. Would Love to have another one. Had mine 2 years, holed one piston, then sent me broke with a big end rebuild. Sold it off to recoup some costs.

Re: If you could have one bike from your past what would it be?
Well my past only had a GPX250 and a ZX9R in it....I liked the 9, but it stung me with the gearbox and it had a few cosmetic issues that the serial detailer in me couldn't cope with, so I'd have to say I've still got the bikes I want

Re: If you could have one bike from your past what would it be?
Seconded! I bought mine for $600 off the local wreckers in 93. First road bike and she hooted. A mate reckons he saw 210km/h on it. I could only get 180 out of it. Had a lethal speed wobble- might have had a bent frame? It toasted my mates GPZ1000RX up to 100 and then the roles swapped. Only sold it coz I was shitting myself about getting caught on it- was only licenced for a 250. I put 250 decals on it, but it was obvious it was a 350- sounded deeper, twin front discs and blue rather than red stripes. (the other way around in the UK though.) Got pulled by the cops once (the only time I was accompanied on my learners) and he said 'did ya put a 250 engine in it?' Yep. My mate took to the 348cc or whatever it said on the side and hit the 3 with a screwdriver, removing the back and lower part of the number, then bent the middle of the 3 down to the bottom to form a 2! Great work!RD 350LC !

Two other bikes I miss are my GPZ900- overall heaps better bike than the ZZR11 I traded it for, and a better sportbike than my 1200 too. It was rough as guts and I dropped it a few times. Somehow I decided that a spotless newer bike was the go. In retrospect I shoulda done up the 9.
Loved the RG250 I owned while I holidayed in the UK. Always wanted a RG500 - every one I have ridden scare the shit outta me. 250 is just as good, just slow comparitively. I got the good oil on a spotless RG500 recently from a mate of a mate- $3500 and everything as new. Been saving up to buy it- got the money aside recently and found out that the guy let it go for $2000! Fark fark fark! Been wanting one for 15 years....can't wait around for bargains. Worth $7k dead easy. Same colour as the one in Nabiac museum- black, white, red and orange. Not my fave colour but for the money I could find a blue fairing set somewhere....

My old mans got two I'd like, A single 500 matchless and an Aeriel Huntmaster 650 twin, I've ridden them both at different stages and both are great for pub runs.

My dad had this 1975 vespa and as a kid I always stand at the front, little hands holding onto the bars. Later this scooter was to be mine during my high school years. It is my most reliable machine yet and so much fun time on it. Yes I still have it

Returned the favor some years later with a high-powered fang ....

Re: If you could have one bike from your past what would it be?
My first bike was a Yamaha DT125 (70s era) , I wish I could get that back, i moved house in my late teens and had no room for it on the truck at the time and was going to fetch it at a later date but never arranged it, the new home owners consulted me before getting rid of it at least but i decided just to let it go, i was young and it gave me a lot of trouble keeping it running so it didn't seem worth keeping but I think thesedays almost 10yrs later I'd enjoy playing with it and understand it a lot more mechanically than back then.
Also wish i still had my LX Torana i gave away to friends as well.. I have to stop givng stuff away.

Re: If you could have one bike from your past what would it be?
Probably my GPz900R - first bike I bought brand new and I absolutely loved it. It did everything I asked of it and made it seem easy, from high speed scratcher runs through the Snowies/Putty Road/Nasho), through interstate marathon rides, to bike rallies located at the end of 30 klms of mountain fire trails - in the rain and mud! It took a pillion effortlessly (and they were happy to be on it), was comfortable, fast, handled spectacularly well for the time and was (mostly) mechanically straightforward. Bastard timing chain tensioner though.
When you have them by the balls, hearts and minds will follow...
