New laws target hoon drivers
December 9, 2004 - 1:04PM
Police will immediately impound vehicles of hoon drivers under legislation passed by South Australian parliament.
The so-called hoon laws will target offences including excessively loud car stereos and street racing, Attorney-General Michael Atkinson said today.
Under the laws expected to take effect by June next year, police will be empowered to impound vehicles of "hoons" for 48 hours prior to any conviction.
A vehicle could be impounded for three months for a second offence and impounded permanently for a third offence.
"Hoons are notoriously hard to catch but I believe this law can help deter and punish them effectively, sending a clear message about the repercussions," Mr Atkinson said.

This sort of Shite is happening up here in Queensland and has been in place for a while now... Not sure if it has done much to deter the "Hoons"
Hasn't me anyway...
