I got a call from a mate of mine this arvo, he is a Vic Police officer. He wanted to make sure I wasn't out on the bike!! Apparently he just listened in on a radio call between a highway patrol car and the air wing. It went something along the lines of... Patrol car radars oncoming vehicle at 200+kph. He jumps in his car and gives chase. The bike didn't realise that anyone was after him so the patrol car starts catching up. The bike sees the patrol car looming in the mirrors and just opens it up and leaves the patrol car for dead. Patrol car radios airwing! Airwing once they know it's a bike tells them to forget it!!!
Apparently the helicopters are only good for about middle 200's! Add a head wind in and the ground speed is even slower!! So by the time theay got the thing in the air, the bike would be in Albury!

yeah, a friend of mine who worked on the electronics of choppers told me that they were only good for 240...I was quite surprised.

Yeah, but the choppers don't have to go around corners or be right above the offending vehicle. With their height, they can see further ahead..
You'd be needing a fairly long, straight stretch of road to be outrunning one.

Do bikes travel faster than radio waves?

Unfortunately for you guys...and fortunately for the rider........The vic boys didn't feel it was worth attempting to waste anymore time trying to catch up with him. Which is logical, because even though radio waves do trvel faster than a bike, all it would take is a smart rider to do a few klms and pull off onto another road and if pulled over play the deny game! At 200+ gazelles, the HP didn't have time to even attempt to read a plate!!!

Well if he's not wearing his number plate/not going to stop voluntarily/not catchable by the police chopper and he has a full tank of juice I suppose that point is moot if he gets off the next exit and loses himself in country Victoria. If he turned left at Wallan he could be up past my place and in Bendigo or Ballarat in less than a couple of hours and unless he's wearing a Chickenman suit he's one motorcyclist out of many

Apparently the choppers go through fuel like crazy when they are at speed
